The American Dream is to achieve a good life. Having things like a stable income to afford a house. Happy family you get to spend your time with. I think the American Dream in general is anything you can achieve as long as you stay positive towards your goals and work hard for them. Although the American Dream is different to everyone. For me though, my American Dream is having freedom, being financially stable, and being able to practice my religion freely.

Religion is a big part of my life and having the freedom in America to practice my own religion is really a privilege. I want to continue to be able to practice my own religion when I'm older.

She talks about The American Dream is different for everyone; their dream might be small or be larger. She also mentions a few reasons why someone might leave their country to come to the US like, freedoms. Kerry Healey brings up that there are more struggles for younger ones today because, people her age now, had 100% of achieving the american dream back then. She thinks that if we tackle the problems that are preventing people from gaining it then the success rate will be higher. Although Kerry does think it is still achievable and alive.

Poem: Mother to Son - Langston Hughes

But all the time

I'se been a-climbin' on,

And reachin' landin's,

And turnin' corners,

And sometimes goin' in the dark

Where there ain't been no light.

So boy, don't you turn back.

The poem is about how the sons mother is striving to reach her dream. She tells her son you're gonna have struggles and its going to be hard but you have to keep on going. That you can't stop until you've reached that goal but even then you can keep on going to try and gain more. The mother points out to her son that they have come this far and can't give up now. This supports my claim because it shows that her american dream is to have a good life for her and her son.

I did the interview with my mother. She said that her view of the american dream is having freedoms. Although she wasn't able to completely accomplish her hopes and dreams she still feels like she had a successful life. She is married, has kids, a home to live in, and the freedom of rights and religion. To her, this is still a big win.

In the book she shares her childhood and the struggles to even get here to America. When she finally has the opportunity to become a US citizen she says it opened up many avenues for her. She was able to go to college and get the schooling for her dream job of becoming a writer. Reyna accomplished her American Dream and still continues to live out her dream with her family. She also continues to still stay connected to her home through writing. Her American dream was to have people be proud of her and to have an education; Someone else's dream might be something else and this helps support the fact that it is still alive and differs from one to another.

As well as ask people what they think they need to have in order to achieve that dream. It states," Collectively, 82 percent of Americans said they were optimistic about their future, and there was a fairly uniform positive outlook across the nation." This a big percentage of Americans that are optimistic about the american dream showing that it is definitely still alive.
