"Humanae" by Angelica Davis is a project motivated on the idea of race in America. On the website it states, "HUMANAE* illustrates an enlightened narrative of humanity as a beautiful mosaic of colors, shapes, sizes, agepresented au natural, and individual that contributes to the collective whole." This contributes to the idea of American diversity, because in America we have people from all types of backgrounds.

In the Great Gatsby, Jay Gatsby is able to overcome his poor past to live a very social lavish lifestyle during the 1920s. Both of his parents were farmers, however he is able to rise above his family's social status, and create a new persona for himself. Gatsby throws extravagant parties every weekend, and has well social status among most of West Egg and New York. Gatsby's past and transformation of wealth in the novel displays that being an American means opportunity for anyone who works hard enough. In chapter 4, Nick remarks, "Anything can happen now that we've slid over this bridge," I thought; Anything at all..." Even Gatsby could happen, without any particular wonder" (Fitzgerald 69). Nick is referring to the bridge to New York. New York epitomizes America, because it is where immigrants first come, and it is the beginning of the land of opportunity. This displays the American Dream, and Gatsby's work to climb to the top.

The collections shows many flags painted in different styles. Also in the collection, are many different maps of the United States. These paintings show that being an American is being proud. If Johns wasn't proud of his country he wouldn't have painted the many flags and maps. He said that one night he dreamed of painting the flag, and the next day he did it.

Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Adress is one of the best known American speeches in history. Almost anyone can recite, "Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this content a new nation..." A strong piece of this address is the statement, "that government of the people, by the people, for the people shall not perish from this Earth" This is a strong statement, due to the emphasis on American unity in the government. Many Americans have a lot of pride in democracy and the right to vote.

The Gettysburg Address by Abraham Lincoln
