The word 'Management' can mean many things to many different people. Being a good manager is reflected on how the individual perceives this term. The process in which a manage plans, organizes, influences, and controls a situation can help depict on weather the person is a good manager. The key to a management role is effective communication. In addition to communication a good manager should provide their employees motivation, rewards, and recognition. Throughout schooling, career and personal life we can use the management functions and characteristics to fulfill our lives. With the management functions we can accurately plan, organize, influence, and control situations in all forms of our lives. No matter if it is how to efficiently complete all the tasks for a particular class or if it means teaching your children they both require these functions. Communication is a key part in all aspects of life. In schooling we use communication to receive and relay information for understanding. In our career we use communication to help fulfill goals. Lastly, in our personal lives we use communication to understand our friends and family.

https://ys6dd2pc2w81bhaa03k9l16k04-wpengine.netdna-ssl.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/RapidBI-Cartoon-143.png

The largest take away from this module was the importance of diversity in the workplace. In the module we touched in the topic of diversity and why it is recommended and important to partake in. The advantages of diversity and the strategies for promoting diversity were required points of discussion in module 2. Diversity has always been a part of our lives. However, with each year the world is becoming more diverse. Diversity does not have to mean different races. It can be different genders, races, cultures, sexual orientation, or generations. As stated in The Perks (And Importance) Of Embracing A Multigenerational Workplace article we must teach one another, listen to each other, and learn from our superiors. While completing the discussion in Module 2 I learned that the companies who partake in diversity were the companies who were more successful. Accepting a variety of opinions and ideas help for the better well being of all forms of a persons life.

Regine, Birute. “Soft Is The New Hard (As In Skills), And Women Lead The Way.” Forbes, Forbes Magazine, www.forbes.com/forbes/welcome/?toURL=https://www.forbes.com/sites/85broads/2011/03/30/soft-is-the-new-hard-as-in-skills-and-women-lead-the-way/&refURL=&referrer=.

Wakeman, Cy. “The Perks (And Importance) Of Embracing A Multigenerational Workplace.” Forbes, Forbes Magazine, 15 June 2015, www.forbes.com/sites/cywakeman/2015/04/23/the-perks-and-importance-of-embracing-a-multigenerational-workplace/#2b675bda51bf.

Module 3: Management within a Global Organization

In Module 3 we had to understand what multinational and international corporations are. Our assignments consisted of the Marriott Corporation. The reason and relevance to this topic when discussing Marriott is the fact that they recently merged with Starwood thus gaining many international locations. At first Marriott was a family owned restaurant and then sprouted to become the number one hotel organization worldwide. Through owning locations in 110 countries Marriott is well versed in the understanding of global organizations. With the module we can learn through Marriott that global expansion is not easy. Nor is it easy to become the top hotel organization in the world but with hard work, determination, and core values you can be golden.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/danschawbel/2013/02/04/j-w-marriott-jr-from-root-beer-stand-to-global-hotel-company/

http://www.hotelnewsnow.com/Media/Default/Images2016/FeatureArt/globalfootprint.jpg

Module 4 consisted of us understanding proper planning and decision making in management. However, an individual can use both planning skills and decision making skills in their personal lives. In this module we were assigned to make a SWOT analysis. The purpose of a SWOT analysis is to identify a companies strengths, weakness, opportunities, and threats. However, an individual can use this type of analysis in a school, career, or personal scenario. In regards to school one can relate this type of analysis to determining which major to partake in. In a career it could relate to taking a job opportunity versus staying with their current position. Finally, in a individuals personal life a SWOT analysis can help with typical decision making.

https://blog.hubspot.com/marketing/swot-analysis

Module 5: Organizational Structure and Processes

The responsibility between responsibility, authority and delegation is what was discussed in Module 5. Module 5 also discussed the importance of organizational culture in building success in a business. Throughout this course I have came across a few organizations who have a well rounded culture forum. This first organization I remember was Marriott. This organization had set core values that they follow to this day. In one of the discussions in this module we were assigned to discuss about Zappos and their culture. The differing cultures of each of these organizations relate to how these companies are different and successful in their own way. When understanding and taking part in organizational culture one can understand that the culture is how the organization perceives themselves. Take Marriott for example the way they perceive themselves is by their core values they live by these values. As individuals we must learn from this and take these tasks into our own lives. For better understanding and judgement.

https://www.marriott.com/culture-and-values/core-values.mi

https://www.zappos.com/core-values

As we further along in this course we are beginning to relate back to the other modules. In this module in particular one of the main topics and modules we can relate back to is module 1 and communication. With relating to communication and the human resources aspect of the module there are certain topics a organization can get knowledge about. In the module we were assigned to complete a employee satisfaction survey. In relation to what I could take away from this module is the fact that I could use the questions that I developed for my survey in my real life. I could relate these questions to how I like my major, my career or a certain personal event.

http://www.grantland.net/customersurvey.htm

https://www.surveymonkey.com/create/?sm=y35BsoD2VfP0nL2G7iLfqpydqDhgCoh3DqaOEjIP9X4_3D

Module 7 consisted off of the concept of leadership and motivation. In any business with different managers, each manager can have different strategies or styles in which they do their duties. Within organizations it is very important to have a superior to be motivational to help provide a successful organization. From the other assignments in this course we have learned from Steve Jobs and Apple as well as Leo Apotheker and Hewlett-Packard that it is important that the leaders of organizations are motivational and are qualified as good leaders to their employees. With positive motivational strategies and well rounded leadership styles an organization can run successfully.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vilZazhIjoc

In this module we are tying up the loose ends of the content we learned through out this course. One of the main points mentioned in this module is how to gather and use data properly. The gathering and analysis of data can help the company depict what they should be doing. Decision making is typically one of the tasks used with the data.
In the module we also came across a few diagrams that can be used with in the business industry. One of which is made by Dr. Deming. This type of diagram helps the customers relay their opinions on the quality of service or product. This diagram is called the Plan-Do-Check-Act cycle.

http://asq.org/learn-about-quality/project-planning-tools/overview/pdca-cycle.html
