A moral story and illustration by Manaswini Basu

Once there lived a man named Madhav with his 3 sons. Madhav was very industrious and he owned a huge business of selling combs. Years passed, Madhav continued his hard work and also grew old. Now, it occurred to him that he had to pass on his business to one of his sons. This was a difficult decision as Madhav doted on each one of them. He decided to test them, so one day he called his sons and asked them to sell as many combs as they could to the bald monks of the nearby temple. Of course all his sons were enthusiastic to get their father's job yet two of them lost interest as they thought it was impossible to sell combs to the bald monks. But the third son did not loose hope and thought he would find a way to sell the combs. Anyway, all of them did what they were instructed by their father. After 2 days Madhav called them and asked the trio how many combs they could sell and how they did it . The first son said that he could not sell any comb. His second son declared that he sold two combs as he sat near the temple with the combs and sold them to the monks by saying it would help them scratch their back. Then the third son came out with a surprising sales figure of a thousand Combs. When asked how he replied he gave the monks an idea. The idea was, that if some of the teachings of Buddha were to be printed on the combs and given as a take away gift to the visitors and pilgrims, they will remember the teachings of Buddha on a daily basis while combing their hair.
This creative idea struck the deal. Madhav did not hesitate a bit to give the responsibility of his house and business to his third son.

An incident by Ketan Daga

It was a Interhouse cricket match between Chanakya and Dronacharya. We needed 95 runs in 7 overs and Arpan and Ketan were batting so our captain Arya motivated us that we can easily make 95 runs in the last 7 overs. So, Arpan and Ketan carefully listened to the captain and they started to play freely. In 2 overs they scored 30 runs so now they needed 65 runs in 5 overs. Now, in Dronacharya’s team had the best bowlers in the four teams Rudransh and Subhradip. It was very difficult to score runs in front of Rudransh and Subhradip. They both had 2 overs left. So, in all they had 4 overs and 1 over of another. Arpan and Ketan tried their best to score runs in front of Rudransh and Subhradip but were unsuccessful and our Chanakya team lost by 5 runs. Our team came in the Second position but we were happy with our performance. We learnt that “THERES ALWAYS A WAY”.

An incident by Eaklavya Bagla

Once, when I was in school, we needed to perform a group activity. Each group consisted of two children but my partner was absent and because it was a group activity I could not perform it alone . So my teacher said that we could do it later but the props required would not fit in the locker nor could I take it home and bring it back because it was very heavy but then I thought that ‘ There’s always a Way ‘ . I got an idea which was I can surely fit the heavy things in the locker and the light things in the bag . That is why we say that there’s always a way if you think great.
