We went over different Author's work but one of my favorite text to read was "Linguistic Justice." This gave me a different view into language itself and that what certain people see as "unprofessional" or "uneducated", really isn't any of those. It is a different type of language and way of expressing one's self. This helped my point of view when doing my WP#3 paper which was about racism and the biased ideas people hold onto about African American people. I was able to try and see a different and more sympathetic point of view from this text.

2.) Discuss how culture, identity, and power play a role in the reading, writing, and/or publication process. You can answer this question as it applies to you specifically or to writers and writing more generally.

Similarly to the "Linguistic Justice" text I previously spoke about I think culture and identity was a very important aspect in this writing. It spoke about how students and people in general are often judged and looked down upon for the way they speak. The way they speak though has a lot to do with culture and their way of identifying and expressing themselves. I think when people who are open to new ideas and have a open mind this is not a hard concept to understand but when you are ignorant or don't like the world changing this concept can seem ridiculous to you, for example, our older generation tends to feel this way which is why making the world a better place can seem like a stand still often times. In the writing process it can be impossible to communicate and get through to people like this that just don't like or want change for a more empathetic world.

My most meaningful feedback while doing peer review was when my group member told me I should think about changing my opening hook because it wasn't "hooking" people the way it could. This made me realize that if people aren't hooked in the beginning of my paper it will be harder for them to get through it. I learned different types of hooks and started implementing them in all my papers which really helped improve my writing.

2.) What was the most useful thing you learned from the process of giving feedback?

The most impactful thing I learned about peer review was how to approach people about improvements without coming across confrontational or hurting anyone's feelings. The last thing I want to do is make someone not feel the best about their work. Things already get misconstrued over text as it is in daily life so learning this was a valuable thing to carry on into the future and daily life in general.

I think the beginning of this class was immensely challenging due to the fact that I did not have really any effective strategies. I truly never thought I would learn so much in an English class but going step by step in every process we did really helped me in so many ways. I honestly thought I was stupid and was never going to be able to write a decent paper but that wasn't the truth at all. I needed the skills which I gained while in this class like critical thinking, and learning how to write a proper APA format paper. These new strategies I gained will be with me now whenever I need them in the future and I am forever grateful for that knowledge.

2.)Did you face challenges at any point in the thinking, reading, and research process? Identify what aspects (i.e. developing a focused research question, finding credible sources, or formulating/articulating your own position, etc.) challenged you most, and explain the nature of those challenges and how you dealt with them.

The main challenges I faced was learning how to write in APA format. I really struggled in doing this for a while and even got so frustrated I cried about it. I didn't know how to properly cite my sources or do a cover page correctly. I was lucky enough to get help from my classmate and friend as well as Ms. Hoover which eventually I got it down thankfully.

I would say the process I used the most was the CRAAP test when evaluating a source that I gathered evidence from. This is a process I learned in this class for the first time and helped when figuring out if a source is credible or not so your paper is as strong as it can be with valid references. I used APA format in my citations because it made the most sense to me and also after learning APA format getting more practice was always helpful.

2.) Identify any challenges you faced with regard to evaluating sources, integrating sources, and crediting sources. How did you overcome these challenges?

I did have some issues while gathering sources for WP#3. This was because we needed several journal articles that were scholar journal articles from the library resource. I feel that it took me much longer to find the correct resources that matched the information I needed for my paper. It was definitely possible but just took some extra time.

The most important thing I learned besides correctly writing an APA format paper was the importance of being a good person. I learned how important it is to keep an open mind and putting yourself in the other persons shoes. I also learned not to let negative people drain your energy and keep an eye on your mental health. When I was struggling with anything I immediately got empathy and going over strategies to do things differently when it came to assignments. For example, try not to do assignments late at night when the mind isn't all there and instead do them earlier or after class when the mind is more active. I think learning better ways you can be a good person and more empathetic in life is a golden skill that I would love to carry with me into the future and in everything I do. I don't think its about being the perfect person but more of being the best person you can be each day, and that was valuable to learn.

2.) Discuss your rhetorical situation (your author positionality, target audience, purpose, topic, and moment in history) for one of your artifacts. Then, explain how that artifact might be different in another context (such as if written from a different author’s perspective, written for a different target audience, or written with a different purpose in mind).

My WP#3 Author Positionality: My stance was claiming that African American women are dying at a 3X higher rate than white women are and stating that there needs to be healthcare system reforms happening to prevent this issue.

I could see this writing being in a different point of view from a black mother who has actually had first hand mistreatment in the hospital. I am white and have never had any negative experiences during giving birth but I am lucky to not even have that as a worry because I am white. Although maybe with the context of a African American women her topic could be more powerful and moving because this would have actually had happened to her and she would have a stronger narrative when it came to the writing and being able to relate. She would be able to empathize and relate as I would only be able to sympathize.
