This is something I did this summer with a group of high-school students, and I am looking forward to trying it with my grade 6's this year.

This summer I ran a photovoice project with a group of girls, each week we discussed a theme (self-esteem, identity, activism, community) and then they would go take a photo that focuses on that what that theme means to them. Throughout the weeks we found that many of these girls had a lot in common when sharing their personal stories and views. We also learned a lot about different perspectives from one another.

During our community week we discussed what community means to them, things they may want to see changed in their communities, and what an ideal community looks like, sounds like, and feels like to them. We also discussed the different forms of communities, ones based on location and ones based on a personal connection. They then went out and took photos of either what they want to see changed or included in their communities.
