Last but not least, some people become poor as a consequence of losing their business or going bankrupt. 

Effects

The effects of poverty are considerable. Firstly, poverty can lead to lack of adequate housing and food, which has devastating consequences for the families involved. Secondly, poverty can cause depression and other mental health problems due to the fact that people cannot afford to relax and are constantly worried about money. Thirdly, owing to poverty, some people are more exposed to crime and criminal offences, so that they can feed their family. In addition, youngsters from poor families are more likely to become part of a criminal gang because they are more tempted by the possibility of earning money and getting out of poverty.
