I really enjoy listening to it and its fun to sing. This song just has a great tone and rhythm and is fun to get down to. This movie was just so good and was a great movie to watch. The movie makes me think of the past and how life has become far safer then it was. He makes us realize we pretend America is all good and there is no bad here but that isn't true. Just like Kendrick, he assesses the topic of gun violence in America. America has many mass shootings at schools and it addresses that but also racism. This song is very moving and so is his performance. The color lights symbolism America. He also talks about how Americans like their money and money and status play a big part in our culture. 

Britney Spears, I'm a slave 4 U addresses how every girl is always young until they aren't and they become grown-up and not innocent. Britney was young at the beginning of her career and she says everyone sees her as the little girl she was. But now she isn't and she is involved in sexual activity and liking men as well as dancing. This performance makes her become the lady she is and shows that it's okay for her to be grown up because everyone grows. She says shes a slave 4 U meaning she likes to be with men and enjoys their presence and how they make her feel. The reading states “It is the Unfriendly Ten (and those around the Ten) whom Hollywood memory has chosen to canonize as martyrs - has chosen to make into admirable American 'rebels' and innocent, victimized heroes.” Stalin also had made a pact with Hitler. However,  when that happened the Ten didn't speak out often and were not acting rebellious. Although I can see why HUAC thought they had the right, they didn't. Communism was spreading and American citizens were very scared of communism coming to America.

"They was in the air"

Everyone was talking about communism in the world at the time

"They was on the ground"

Communism was said to be coming to America 

"They wouldn't gimme no peace".

In this song, he mentions communists and how it made him upset and gave him no peace. He was a part of the counterculture and they were very anti-war.  They feared that communism would bring war and the counterculture wanted was peace. 

Masters of War says "Come you, masters of war, You that build the big guns" Bob Dylan is talking about the people who are rich and encourage war. The ones that are ok with it happening.
"You fasten all the triggers For the others to fire Then you set back and watch When the death count gets higher"
He talks about how they pay for guns to be manufactured and produced for these young kids to go fight in the war. They watch as the people die and kind of disregard it and disregard their lives. 
"You hide in your mansion' As young people's blood Flows out of their bodies And is buried in the mud"
At the time war was being fought and many young kids were dying. Bob Dylan hits on that topic and makes it very noticeable that people are out there in America saying it's ok for these young kids to fight and die and all they get is buried in the mud and forgotten about. 

"It was a normal day"
Bob Dylan explains it's just a normal day for him and he was out walking around. 
"A shotgun fired, and away I ran I don’t blame him too much though, he didn't know me"
All of a sudden some man fired and him with his shotgun
"He screamed a bit, and away he flew, Thought I was a Communist"
Many people were living in fear of communism and this shows how people just ran away and were afraid to talk to people because they may be communist.
"Hey I’ve been having the same old dreams But mine was a little different, you see I dreamt the only person left after the war was me I didn’t see you around" 
Bob Dylan is trying to say maybe that the counterculture wasn't expected and maybe him not being there after war represents the counterculture not being excepted. 
"Well, now time passed and now it seems Everybody’s having them dreams Everybody sees their self Walking around with no one else" 
everyone is having these dreams because the war scares them and they are afraid everyone is going to die. War was big at the time and everyone was fearing it.

When recording Nevermind it was clear to see the musical focus was to point out all the things that teenagers live through that make their lives horrible. Rock was more upbeat and fun when Nirvana was full of pain and sadness but expressed that so well throughout the album Nevermind. The song smells like teen spirit showed how he has feeling and he didn't just make some punky background music he played the chorus as a guitar solo and it sounded GREAT. 

What did you find unexpected or surprising when watching those videos? Why? 
When watching these videos I found it very unexpected to see all the different things they did to make the music better. They layered tracks and had them sing the song over the same song to make the music more prominent. I loved watching all the fun things the tech guys did to make the songs outstanding. 

How would Nevermind have completely changed the music industry, based on what you watched? What makes you say that? 
Nevermind completely changed the music industry Because it was the first real album to ever express depression, sadness, bullying. Kurt really stuck out when he released this album because all those kids never had someone to stand up for them. They were torn down every day by their bully, parents, life, and themselves. However when this album was out everyone that ever experienced that pain had someone who did too. Not only someone but a whole army and now music to listen to and feel the pain leave. I learned how much of an impact artists' had on society like the Beatles and Madonna. But I also learned that movie makers use fear to project on their audience like the movie THEM! As I move into the future I will definitely be focusing on the music aspect of the class. I will always know what the time period was experiencing and what the music at that time represents. My understanding of US history hasn't really changed due to the fact I learned about it all last year. We started in the 50-the 60s and ended up in the 90s.
