We carried out the activity of telling legends to disadvantaged groups in our project called "Legends. Com", which we carry out within the scope of Erasmus + School Partnerships, with the families and their children affected by the earthquake staying at the Side Risus hotel.

In the activity attended by our school's teachers and students, the children ate the chocolates offered to them and listened to local and foreign legends from their high school sisters. The "Daphne" (Daphne) legend, believed to have taken place in the Defne district, mainly located in the earthquake zone and is very important for the Greeks, attracted the children's attention.

 After telling the epics, games were played with the children. They chatted with their parents and shared their pain. Children affected by the earthquake did not want to leave their high school brothers and sisters. We said goodbye to them by inviting them to our school.

We told them Turkish, Greek, Czech and Finnish legends.

We were welcomed by Mr. Tomáš Valčík, a leisure-time educator, and Ms. Světlana Severová, Bc., the head of the department. They took us to the recreation room, where the clients were invited for an afternoon of legends. The centre's atmosphere is charming and cosy, and our hosts prepared refreshments for us. The clients who spent the afternoon with us were all adults, aged twenty to sixty, of various nationalities. We thus learned about the fates of refugees from Cuba, Syria, Senegal, Russia, and Ukraine.

Our students prepared a presentation on the history and culture of the Czech Republic, followed by a short quiz. Then, they read and told several famous legends of Brno to the centre's clients, all in English. Then, everyone spontaneously divided into smaller groups, where our students listened to the sad stories of asylum seekers and the beautiful stories and legends from their countries.

The meeting lasted over two hours and was so warm and pleasant that no one wanted to leave. We thank the management of the Reception Center Zastávka for their hospitality and willingness, and we look forward to further cooperation.

"It was a mega pleasant meeting; it's a shame there wasn't more time. I chatted with Adja from Senegal, who fled because of the political situation. We talked a lot about our and their culture. She told us a fairy tale about Coumba, their version of the Cinderella story... Adja was incredibly kind and energetic; she tried to motivate us to travel and see the world; she volunteered with the AIESEC organization, and through it, she first came to the Czech Republic. She also told us about Goré Island, near the city where she lived her whole life. It was a place where enslaved people from all over Africa were gathered and then transported away... For me, it was a terribly pleasant and inspiring meeting. It was great to have the opportunity to listen to their life stories, to get a glimpse of their culture, and to learn more about the world... I found it almost unbelievable how much optimism Adja had despite having to flee her country. Otherwise, everyone was generally "mega" nice and smiling, I think the centre is well-run, and it's great that they have the opportunity to form such a community upon arrival, even if only for a while." - Markéta Zemanová, SXB (edited and shortened)

"The visit to the centre was interesting and beneficial. The refugees were friendly and wanted to talk to us... There was a bit of a language barrier with non-English speakers. Still, translators allowed us to participate in the conversation. I was in a group with refugees from Syria, and they all agreed that Syria used to be rich and independent and that it's a great pity that wars are going on there now. The 19-year-old girl writing a book about what it's like to leave her country impressed me the most. They shared their wishes for the future, mostly centred around freedom... I consider Syrian food to be one of the best in the world. :)... I'm glad I could visit the centre; the visit helped me realize how lucky I am to have been born in the Czech Republic." - Adam Svoboda, SXB (edited and shortened)

At the beginning of the event, Ms Tsigka, the contact person of the Greek school, presented the main activities of the project and the broadcast channel with legends in all the project languages on Spotify. The event was successful as all the attendees were focused on the storytelling.
