This was a court case where it would be decided if schools in Georgia would be integrated or segregated. The Georgia General Assembly wanted to keep schools desegregated but federal mandates wanted to integrate schools. The Sibley Commission was a survey to get Georgia's people opinion on the court case and mostly people wanted desegregation. In the end, Atlanta was a test run for integrated schools.

After the case of Brown vs. Board of Education in 1956, Georgia legislators decided to change the flag back to the Confederate Flag. They did change it so that the public wouldn’t have to argue for the flag back. Even though legislators claimed that the flag was not opposing desegregation, it did. Governor Barnes changed the flag and even more people were livid so when a new governor came in, they changed the flag to what it is now and preferred it over what they called the “Barnes Rag” flag.

It was a failed attempt to desegregate the Albany community and many protesters got put in jail and they even called MLK Jr. to help make the problem national and get everybody to help with the solution. A good thing that came out of this is that Albany then got a black nominee for a county commission seat and removed all segregation statutes from their books. Albany Civil Rights Institute opened to commemorate the Civil Rights Movement and the role Albany played.

It was to change people's opinion on not being racist based on people's skin color and sex/gender. People marched all the way to Washington and there were a lot of people and the police said that order had to be maintained or Civil Rights would not be reached.
