The Catholic sacrament 'Anointing of the Sick' is required of an ill person to contact a priest of a church and the priest prays over him/her and anoints them with oil. If the person has committed any sins it'll be washed away. The priest will then lay hands on him/her and continue to pray, after a few prayers the priest anoint the sick person's forehead and palms with oil. A final prayer and blessing is then said by the priest.

The sacrament was formerly known as Last Rite and Extreme Unction. The origin of the sacrament took shape from the passage of James, 5:14-16, and even further back where Jesus and his first followers practised healing. In 235 AD was the year where the Apostolic Tradition was written which was the earliest liturgical holy book. The manual had instructions for the ill to be anointed with oil. As time passed the practice were improved and still following the functional foundations.
