Jon Klassen
Alysia Alvarado
This is a fun book about a little fish who steals a hat from a big fish. The little fish goes on to tell the story of how the big fish probably will not know. The story ends with the big fish finding his hat, but the reader is left wondering what happened to the little fish.

This book can be used to teach repetitive text structures. In the book the small fish, who is also the narrator repeats the beginning of most of the sentences. If I where to show this book in my classroom, I think I would try to express the importance repetitive text structure has on this book, and what is can do for their own writing.

by Jamie Lee Curtis
This book uses the term "human race" as a play on words to ask if we are really in competition with each other. This book makes us step back and look at why we tend to compare ourselves to others. I think it is good to learn about play on words as well as rhetorical questions (the book is full of them). This book also offers a great chance to teach rhyming.
