         <description><![CDATA[<div>After my last IB training, I created a big push around student agency.  We set aside a bulletin board, and every time a teacher saw students taking action and exhibiting an attribute, they texted me a picture of the action, and I posted it on our bulletin board.  We had little things like a kindergartener helping a classmate tie his shoe on the playground to big things like student initiated community service projects (one student even wrote a letter to Coca Cola asking for donated sodas for the class who collected the most poptops for Ronald McDonald House - that was my favorite item on the board).  I'm glad this came back to mind - would like to incorporate this again.  It made teachers keep the Learner Profile on their minds and gave us a space to recognize students.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>One thing I connected were the remarks in the leaders work collaboratively portion; the parts about being a good listener and developing trusting, productive collaboration. If there is one good thing that came out of the pandemic it was that my teachers learned about the value of working collaboratively and trusting that each one of them would do their part to support each other.&nbsp;<br>Extend - I would like to extend or learn more about how to involve parents more. This is an on-going exploration as we move out of the pandemic and re-open our school. Yet like I stated in our session yesterday, I also want to find ways to go TO the families and help them develop into more of a stakeholder feeling and place in our school.<br>Challenge - shared leadership. We are such a small school, 5 teachers, 5 on our special ed team. All the other schools in our district have leadership teams and we do not yet how can I help to build that shared leadership with such a small young staff?</div>]]></description>

Focusing on the why drives the staff in my building, even if they don't realize this. The school initiatives that have been introduced have come from staff members talking about what they believe and then working towards a collective vision.          <description><![CDATA[<div>I have viewed this video before and "the why" is what strikes me every time. That little phrase falls directly in line with a lot of what we are doing in Fridley; not adding more to our plate rather looking at everything we are doing and WHY are we doing it. Why are we a Prek-12 authorized school district? Why are we incorporating PBIS, CLR and other things in with our IB? Why is equity work so important? So this video just brings that back into focus, the why.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The points she makes in this video are very important when we talk about a hero versus a leader. A leader gets in and works with the people they are leading, a hero is like the sage on a stage. A leader collaborates and is willing to be flexible and use the knowledge and input from others, a hero wants to talk to people, often times talking down to them. The most effective leaders I have worked with are those who do the daily work with me and yet can step aside and let me go, uphold me when I need it, hold me accountable, and help me fix things. A hero doesn't do this.</div>]]></description>

The rest of our district is embarking on self study this year for re-authorization. We are also in the process of hiring a new PYP coordinator for Hayes. At our leadership retreat this summer, myself, Kelly McConville, Gaeli Iverson, the new Hayes PYP Coordinator and our other elementary principal and PYP Coordinator will look at this and enter into the discussion about how does the Preschool and Early Years Action Plan blend into Kindergarten since the Early Years encompasses Kindergarten. We will then loop in the others from this workshop.
