The theme of the whole book is if human is naturally evil or good, and the author shows his point of view of this dilemma by showing to us how a group of child will run a society without any adult or mature person, so no one could define them what is right or wrong, and is be civilized vs be savage, be good or bad, or just like life itself selfish. As a example of being civilized is “The toy of voting was almost as pleasing as the conch. Jack started to protest but the clamor changed from the general wish for a chief to an election by acclaim of Ralph himself.”. But at the end they will go wild.

He was so fine with it and even exited at the beginning when he arrived the island, but wiht the days going he start to be more preoccupied of what could happen next and start to find ways to come back to society. But when the other kids started to no protected the fire and make the signal, he requests a meeting and start to fight and has conflicts with Jack. "Don’t you want to be rescued? All you can talk about is pig, pig, pig!"

Piggy Ch 3-6

At the beginning he was the more mature one and the one with hope of being rescue and making plans to make to happen, but with the days going he start to lose hope and feel disappointed of the other kids that not doing anything more than just playing and eating fruit. And how the kids are starting to loss hope and becoming more savage, how the kids prioritize the hunting than making the fire and give the signal so a ship nearby could see them. But they started to accept that they will be in the island and live there and start to act more savage. "“Look at us! How many are we? And yet we can’t keep a fire going to make smoke. Don’t you understand? Can’t you see we ought to – out to die before we let the fire out?” There was a self-conscious giggling among the hunters."

When Jack put his mask on, it refers to accept his animal and savage part. And loss his humanity or empathy. Thats why when he has the mask on, Jack loses guilt and shame. And start to act like there are not consequences and kill the pig. In the first chapters the kids saw the beast as big snake at night, and scare them all th night, then the soldier that fell from the sky that was confused with the beast, put at some point of chapter 6, they started to realize that the monster may not exist and is just them. The conch is starting to loss power. The kids started to loss respect, and they don't care if anyone has the conch, they won't let them talk. The strongest is who talks. How the symbol represents it civilization and power. But with the days going the kids started to loss hope and going savage, they start to be less civilized the conch don't matter anymore.

"Conch! Conch!” shouted Jack. “We don’t need the conch anymore. We know who ought to say things. What good did Simon do speaking, or Bill, or Walter? It’s time some people knew they’ve got to keep quiet and leave deciding things to the rest of us."

In both of the stories they use the symbolism of a "mask". But it represents different things in both works, in the Lord of the flies it shows the true self of the hunter kids, but in the poem, it hides the true feelings of those that use the mask. In the lord of the Flies, when Jack and the other kids put their mask on to hunt, they lose humanity and become less civilized, more savage. They lose shame, or guilt and start to act more like animals. But in the poem "We Wear the Mask" the mask hides their true self "It hides our cheeks and shades our eyes,—". They don't want to show to the world their reality and how they live in misery and sadness. At the end both stories use the symbolism of a mask to represent the nature of their characters.

Ralph Ch 7-9

The change that Ralph is experimenting in this chapter is going towards to savagery and leaving that civilized part of him aside but still hold to his civilized side. How he went hunting with Jack and his hunters, and after hitting an animal he felt the same excitement that the other kids felt while hunting. And he even state how was it for him "The fire’s the most important thing. Without the fire we can’t be rescued. I’d like to put on war-paint and be a savage. But we must keep the fire burning. The fire’s the most important thing on the island, because, because—" But he still holding that civilized human part and tries to tell the guys to still use the fire for rescue. But the savagery is awakening for inside of him and there is no come back, and an action that represent this is when he and the other kids kill Simon, beating him to dead, without even knowing.

Jack Ch 7-9

In chapter 8 is when Jack leaves the community where Ralph is the chief, and some of his hunters join him to make a more savage community where Jack is the leader "I’m not going to play anymore. Not with you...I’m not going to be a part of Ralph’s lot—". This is an example of State of Nature, how is the "war of every man against every man" and how part of human nature is the difference that led to a separation into groups and the conflict between those groups to see which one is the best. Later in chapter 9 at the party that Jack is having with the other kids, shows how they are more savage by the way they dressed and how they are completely in control by emotions and instinct as example of this is the beating to dead of Simon.

Conch Ch 7-9

If in the last chapters, it was losing power and respect. In this chapter its losses almost all power and it starting to be going back to be just a conch. How even Ralp who is the chief and have the conch in his position, there is some rebels and Jack do not listen or respect the people that use the conch. And after the meeting in chapter 8 the conch it helps to represent the loss of civilization of Jack and the raise of his kingdom "He laid the conch with great care in the grass at his feet. The humiliating tears were running from the corner of each eye. “I’m not going to play any longer. Not with you." " How some kids don't care anymore about the conch and the ones that still do they are losing respect.

The Beast Ch 7-9

The Beast in this story serve a purpose of being the thing that the kids are scared of it, savagery and evil inside of every human being (or is how Golding sees humans being). And how this beast is hungry and will kill and devore everything that is at its past, and the kid that first realized the truth (Simon), that there is not such real beast is just the nature of human being that scared the others, he was killed that "the beast" and beating to death. And the sad part is that he found prof that there is no beast in the island "As Simon thought this, he turned to the poor broken thing that sat stinking by his side. The beast was harmless and horrible; and the news must reach the others as soon as possible.". But Simon's morality and his desire of helping the kids where stop by the nature of human, savagery, "the Beast".

Lord of the flies

This action symbolized the savagery and the loss of empathy that the hunters are experimenting. By killing a mother pig when it as just feeding his son, it represents the loss of empathy for Jack's side and the "offering" to the beast is just a way of Jack to let the other kids to believe that the beast actually exists and to make them fear and control them. To preserve his leadership even he is not a good leader at all, in base of fear and misconception. "And about the beast. When we kill we’ll some of the kill for it. Then it won’t bother us, maybe." -- Jack.

Simon's death Ch 7-9

After comforting Ralph in chapter 7 "You’ll get back all right. I think so, anyway.", and stating that he isn't leaving the island alive, he goes to the forest looking for the beast, but first he encaunters with the lord of the flies "The pig´s head in the spear". And the lord of the flies tell him his future. And how the savagery will kill him. And after that crazy vision, Simon goes running and find the soldier in his parachute in the tree. And the enlightment about what was happening in the island could start happening, with the news that this good soul would bring, and clear all the confuses minds in the island. But Simon with the enlightment and preapre to save the society is killed by the savagery and madness that all human beings has inside them, showing how the nature of human being don´t let us to see the truth and help others.

Id, Ego, Superego

Jack: In the "Lord of the flies" He was driven mostly by his id and has a big ego but ended up with no superego at all. At the beginning he wants to make rules and follow them, as he made the other kids to follow Ralph's rules, but at some point, his id or desire of food and amusement take his little superego and erase it to drive him into savagery. And as referred in the article the id is "the psychic force that motivates the tendency to seek immediate gratification of any impulse." and the ego that let him have the force to seek a way to get that desire. As sees how he wants food and diversion, he started hunting and make the other kid to follow him and lied to them to have the authority. And how he doesn't care about the future and just for the instant pleasure, when he didn't want to keep the fire.

Ralph: He has a big ego and some id and mostly driven by his superego. As sees that he is the one that proposed to be rules and keep the kids civilized, using the conch as a tool or symbol of rules and order. And by the use of his ego that " represents what may be called reason and common sense, in contrast to the id, which contains the passions." have the force to make the rules and made some of the kids to follow them, and the most important one is to keep the fire, so they can be rescued. This is a demonstration that he doesn't let his id to take control and has plans to the future using superego and ego. But at the end when Piggy died, and the conch is destroyed he loses his superego and is driven by his id to survive.

Piggy: Is an example of someone driven by his superego rather than with his id, but with a low ego. He was the calmest and always thinking of the situation or what was happening outside the island and the future, just like the definition of superego " is the moral part of us, reflecting the internalization of cultural rules, mainly taught by parents or situation", looking for a way to escape from that island, like the way he knows some of the implications of the war that the adults are fighting outside the island. But he didn't have the power or force to apply his ideals or opinion. So, the other kids didn't listen to him. And in the story, he didn't change much in this aspect, but maybe that by get killed.

Simon: He was one of the kids with the most superego, he always wanted to help others rather than himself. Making his control by the id very low. He let this superego "controls his sense of right and wrong and helps us fit into society by getting us to act in socially acceptable ways" But because of being civilized and didn't have the power to protect himself he got killed.

Ralph Ch 10-12

Through this chapters he loss totally control about the other kids, and becuase he know the destiny of Simon he is scared "I’m frightened. Of us. I want to go home. Oh God, I want to go home.". And after the raids from Jack's group and comfronting him, piggy dies and the conch is destroid and with that he is force to go savage for suervaving. And tries to hide of Jack's group. And after the fire porpaged that much, finally he and the others were saved by an adult. So at the end he ended up going savage because was it was his only option to survive at this point.

Jack Ch 10-12

He is out of his mind and doing whatever he wants, withpouht thinking on the future or the others, he start the raids to Ralph's group and steal the glasses and he still liyning to himslef about what they did to Simon, and wants to kill the beast "No! How could we--kill--it?". But he still make his control and make the other kids to catch Ralph and take care of him. An the irony that after the fire's smoke reach the eyes of that sailman and rescued them he start crying like a kid, realizing that Ralph was right all along, and that he just kill a lot of kids without reason.

Piggy Ch 10-12

Just like Jack, He still think that he didn't participate in the murder of Simon "That's right. We was on the outside. We never done nothing, we never seen nothing.", in a way to preserve his humanity and dignity by lying to himself. But at the all humans are savage and naturally evil (or that how Golding thinks). And a show that a cilivize human will be killed by the savagery or join it, piggy is killed in chapter 11. He was one of the last kids that keep his id or davage in control and even after doing what he did to Simon he stills want to hold on to his humanity.

Duality of fire Ch 10-12

How at the beginnig the fire was a symbol of hope and salvation but when the chapter continued, the fire was use by the savage kids as a tool of savagery and discontrol. Jack even used the fire to kill Ralph "Suddenly he blundered into the open, found himself again in that open space—and there was the fathom-wide grin of the skull, no longer ridiculing a deep blue patch of sky but jeering up into a blanket of smoke. Then Ralph was running beneath trees, with the grumble of the forest explained. They had smoked him out and set the island on fire.". But at the end the fire completed his original purpose, to save them. At the end, because of the big fire and the smoke a sailman find them and rescued them of that island, but that fire that save them was meant to kill and destroy, is a completely irony.

At the end the beast is all of us. That it was Ralph realized at the end of the story and that the reason why Piggy and Simon are dead "And in the middle of them, with filthy body, matted hair, and unwiped nose, Ralph wept for the end of innocence, the darkness of man’s heart, and the fall through the air of the true, wise friend called Piggy.". Even taht Jack want to still lied to himself about it and saying that is a real beast "No! How could we--kill--it?", he know from inside that the actual beast is them and all problems that they were facing were made by themselfs. And the beast is there and will be alive for all the time that humanity is alive. And the beast was develop to show to the reader as a way to represent human anture and his savagery, first represented as an actual animal, later the more civilized kids figure that they were the beast, and because of knowing the truth they were killed.
