Shared Modelled Writing for IGCSE Business

The girls have been working together (supported and guided by me) to write model responses for exam questions. Yesterday, they focused on "Justify" and used coloured coding to identify the skills they applied. They then compared these to the assessment rubric to support their self-assessment and reflection.

Struggled with a chatty Year 7 class that found it hard to get started and stay on task. I introduced a personal progress tracker that recorded effort, behavior, and number of questions attempted. It worked! Students began taking ownership, celebrating their progress, and even competing in a healthy way:

“I did 5!” – “I helped a friend!” – “Can you write 8 for me?” This tool has allowed me to highlight the good while gently addressing off-task behavior—without confrontation. It’s also opened up great reflective conversations with students.

Equation Card Game – Year 7

To make solving equations more engaging, we kicked off the lesson with a card-based activity. Students matched parts of equations and collected like terms before solving. Starting with a game helped lower stress and build confidence—especially for those who find algebra tricky!
