Musicians, painters, buildings, bridges, speeches, words, every part of our culture makes Portugal what it is. The key to living well among those other cultures is being open-minded, willing to try new experiences, challenge the unknown and explore it. Being blind is only prejudicing you because you are the one that is going to lose. So, every step we take in this community (the one where we embrace each other) will improve us, and the world.
Leonor Santos

The popular costume from Oltenia was born in the Romanian peasant's household, being simpler or more richly ornamented, depending on the place and time where it was worn: at work, or at a celebration. We can say that an authentic costume, handmade over 100 years ago, is a real treasure. In fact, old costumes are in great demand, with popular music artists competing to show off the most valuable pieces, some inherited, others received or bought. There is a risk, however, that an artist's music may not match the costume pattern. This is because both the folk songs and the costume designs differ greatly from one county to another.
- Avram Alexandra

The happy cemetery in Sapanta

The happy cemetery is a cemetery in Săpânta town, Maramureș country, famous for his brightly colored grave crosses and naive paintings representing scenes from the life and occupation of the buried people. On some crosses there are even verses in which the respective persons are remembered, often with humorous nuances.
It was hypothesized that Stan Ioan Pătraș would have been inspired by the culture of the Dacians, who, from Ovid Densușianu onwards, are said to have considered death as a joyful event. The first epitaph dates from 1935, and from the 1960s onwards, the entire cemetery was populated with about 800 such crosses, carved from oak wood, becoming a unique open-air museum and a tourist attraction.
Since 2009, the cemetery has been the focus of the annual festival "Long Road to the Happy Cemetery".
Some crosses are painted on both sides. On one side is placed a description of the life of the buried, and on the other side , the reson of death.
Most of the crosses are written with spelling mistakes and archaic written variants.
Jahanpour Daria
