Literature has the power to promote dialogue and debate in the elementary classroom. Students thrive on this interaction with others as they are exposed to new cultures, backgrounds, thoughts, habits and experiences.

Option A: Please read an excerpt from your favorite book (or any text) and ask a thought provoking question for your classmates to respond to (creating dialogue) Use the following voice recording service:
http://vocaroo.com/
Make sure to post a picture of the book's cover for a visual.

Option B: Respond to a classmate's excerpt/question to create/contribute to our class dialogue. Use the following voice recording service to respond to your classmate:

http://vocaroo.com/

**How to use vocaroo - click on the link and record yourself speaking/reading. Then paste the link of your recording to your classmate's board. **

- I use vocaroo in my class frequently. Students record themselves reading and I use this recording for reading conferences. :)

Sample vocaroo recording:

http://vocaroo.com/i/s0EQn6rFYhBn

When I first started teaching my mentor teacher told me that the most important thing to teach kids it to make a mini-movie in their heads as they read. As a reader, I just always did that, so I didn't realize that not everyone did. At the beginning of the year I like to read a lot of books that force kids to use their imaginations.

This book is wonderful because is is about using your imagination. One of the things that I do as I read is that I don't show them the pictures at first and I have them tell me what is happening in their mini-movie. We talk about as a class what we see in our heads. How they can be the different and the same? How does the mini movie help us understand the story better? We practice making mini-movies in our heads until it becomes natural to them. It helps them understand the story and relate to the characters.

Thank you for letting my daughter be part of the reading. I hope that it doesn't interfere too much with the story.
http://
vocaroo.com/i/s1zgRdYB3wzN
