I would like to join a running club and run races. Joining a running club allows me to meet new people as well as enhance my stamina, endurance and speed. This would boost my confidence as a runner and always wanting to try to improve myself by training. For example, by joining the GYSS Cross Country team has allowed me to improve on my performance in running. I also obtained an opportunity of showing and improving my leadership skills in the team. Therefore, joining a running club makes me a better person.

I would love to join running races as races would improve my health in general as well as having a sense of accomplishment when I cross the finish line. It also allows me to challenge myself physically and mentally too. In my bucket list, I would really want to complete a half-marathon by the end of this year with a target time of 2 hours, which is a challenge itself. Running races would also test my capability. For example, my personal record for the 5k is 19:11. By obtaining this time, I would be able to motivate myself even harder to hit a sub 19min time for the 5k. Thus, running races allows me to be motivated and disciplined to achieve the time that I want in the future. This would also help to prevent living a sedentary lifestyle.

However, since there is a global pandemic right now, there are no running competitions happening, hence I will not have any chances to participate in races and competitions. Despite not having any real life competitions, there are virtual races where participants are able to run at their own free time and just need to send in their timings to the organiser. If they have covered the distance, they would receive a finisher medal. Thus, this is why I like to join running races.

Yes I will. I love and have a strong passion for running. Although I don’t have a good stamina and can’t continuously run without taking a break, I do feel that running is a rewarding sport it helps me to relieve stress and is like therapy to me. Moreover, running brings nostalgia of running with my parents in East Coast Park and, having run a race before in school and I vividly remember that when I completed it, my peers ran to me and cheered. I felt a sense of accomplishment then, and my passion for running just grows stronger and stronger everyday. Even though running is seen to be a personal sport, it actually allows me to rely on my teammates and strengthen our team spirit when we run together which I feel that is an act of sportsmanship. For example, as I am running a race with my teammates, it is difficult to talk while running, a simple eye contact of encouragement or two claps that symbolises “fighting” and this will motivate me to continue to strive and complete the race. Other than just studying everyday, running allows both our physical and mental health to be in good conditions. Perseverance and endurance is what I’ve learnt from running and that is the the key to success in winning the race. Hence, I would definitely love to join a running club and run races along with my teammates.

Yes I would like to join a running club because I enjoy running and meeting new people. Running also helps me keep fit and improve my stamina. I enjoy running because it helps me relieve stress after a long day. I also listen to music when I run so sometimes the music gives me energy to run more. Some songs I listen to when I run are ‘Cause for concern’, ‘Drag me down’ and ‘fever’. These songs are very high energy and motivates me to run for a longer period of time.

At a running club, I can meet people who have the same liking for running as I do. We can run together outside school and motivate each other especially during competitions. We can race against each other and compare our timings to each other. We can also give feedback and help improve one another’s skills. I’m in my school’s badminton team and when we train together we bond together because we have the same goal in mind; Have fun together.

Lastly, I would like to join the running club because it will help me keep fit. Sports clubs usually have training many times a week, this allows me to exercise almost regularly which helps me keep fit. Furthermore, the training also helps to build my stamina so I can get a shorter timing for my 2.4km run in my NAFA test.

I disagree that playing team sports is a better way to exercise than doing individual sports like running.

I used to love team sports.I grew up playing basketball but it isn’t the best way to exercise. We exercise to get fit, build muscles, burn fat. For that to happen, workouts need to be effective, convenient and consistent. Team sports is difficult to put together in Singapore-we need to book courts and get teammates down. It may not always be effective in helping us get fit or lose weight, especially when teammates play “for fun”.

When I exercise on my own and do a solo sport, I can do it conveniently. I can put on my running shoes and go for a run in the park and I do not need to wait for anyone to arrive. I get to exercise consistently and meet my targets. I can effectively lose weight.

Furthermore, individual sports also allow for very personalized attention and training. The training is programmed to work on specific weaknesses of an athlete, which is something you see less of in team sports.

Team sports may be fun and entertaining, but it isn’t the best way to exercise. Solo sports or exercising alone is the better way to exercise as it ensures maximum efficiency and productivity.

The picture shows many people running the standard charted marathon. The people running the marathon looks happy, and also focused. And the runners look like they are reaching the last stretch of the race as the runners look exhausted. But although they exhausted, they persevered through the race as they know that they are doing the race for a good cause, which is raising money for the youths in singapore to support their education, entrepreneurship, and employability.
Personally, i have participated in such a race before, which was the yellow ribbon race. The main goal of that race was to open the second prison to give the prisoners a second chance in life. The hardest part of the race is the last part of the race. Because most runners can generally hold a steady pace for the majority of the race before feeling a physical toll on their bodies, and it will be harder to keep up with the pace they were at. The race also becomes mentally tougher.

Firstly, running is a testament to our physical strength as we push our bodies to its limits. Running requires high endurance and stamina to sustain the speed throughout the run.
Secondly, running also test the mental strength of runners.personally, when I was running for Nafa 2.4 Km run, I struggled with my mental state as I saw people one after another run past me.Despite the constant urge of giving up, I persevered through the race and managed to finish it.

Yes, I agree because in a team sport, apart from being able to exercise and stay fit, I’ll be able to develop leadership skills focusing on the team goal rather than my own. For example, having played in my own basketball team, I have grown in the area of leadership and player skill, with my new found friends, through the countless wins and losses.

As the saying goes “unity is strength” , I feel that team sports promotes reliance and build trust between people. In team sports, each player has a role to play to contribute to the success or failure in the team therefore every member is important. In our individualistic society, many people pursue their goals and rely on themselves solely. Through team sports such as basketball, I have learnt that only with the help of people, is true success attained.

However I disagree as team sports are a very difficult thing to get into as the development of reliance, trust and other qualities between teammates takes a tediously long time. In a team, there is a diversity of skill sets and personalities, for example, teammates might not be skilled enough and might thus be a liability to the team, affecting the results of the team negatively. Therefore team sports might have lower chances of winning or losing is largely dependent on the team’s skill set and attitudes , so the rise and fall of the team might not solely depend on one person and victories might not be in one’s control.

I agree that playing team sports is a better way to exercise than doing individual sports. Team sports allow us improve our communication skills with people as it requires a lot of communication to work well as a team. For instance, for basketball, team members are required to work together and communicate smoothly to know when to pass the ball to one another. I recall a time where my team and I were playing team badminton during PE lesson. My other teammate took the front of the court while I was at the back, it makes it easier than playing solo as we only had to care of one area. ^ (example should be more elaborated, bad vocabs)

Another reason why team sports is better than individual sports is because it allows us to motivate each other to keep going when someone is on the edge of giving up. Seeing your teammates work hard will definitely make you want to push yourself in order to not bring the team down. It is also less stressful to play since we can rely on our teammates to split the workload and win.

However, playing solo has its advantages as well. One of them is that we can exercise at our own suitable timing, which is more flexible than exercising with a group as we have to check for our availability.
Despite the advantage of playing individual sports, one must have strong discipline and determination to be able to do individual exercises for a long time.
Hence, in my opinion, team sports are still better than doing individual sports.

I agree that team sports is better than individual sport. Team sport such as badminton is a way for teammates to interact and bond with one another. They are able to bring the full potential of teammates and encourage each other to put in their best.
In a team sport, they can keep each other in track and ensure that every member is able to keep up with the trainings given by the coach. The training is tiring and may requires large amount of will power to complete hence having other support is definitely necessary.
I disagree that team sport is better. When competition is around the corner, members might have peer pressure to do well for the team and might over work oneself. A team might pick on the weaker players which can cause them to be discouraged and lose faith in their abilities.
I disagree that team sport is a better way to exercise as there can be peer pressure when playing team sport. Games like basketball requiring team sports can instead of the teammates encourage, they can be the opposite and disheartened people if they are not up to their standards
