In 1866 Mary MacKillop helped Father woods to start the first free Catholic school that was located in Penola. This school first started in a stable, but then they moved it into a more substantial stone building. The following year, she joined with Father Woods once more and formed and new religious order of nuns, The Sisters of St Joseph. These nuns were devoted to teaching the poor, with Mary as the mother superior. They opened a convent-cottage and a school in Adelaide. Mary then took her religious vows on August 15. On December 8, she took her final vows, before she left for Queensland, so she could open up more schools.

In Mary MacKillop's writings, she has made countless pleas to her sisters and others. These were to be kind, loving, compassionate, forgiving and to be merciful. Mary's words, which were written over a century ago, are still relevant and inspirational to this day.

During Mary's time, she first worked as a clerk for Sands and Kenny stationers when she was aged 14 years old. She and her brother John worked to support their family. When she was 18 years old, she took a job as a governess, at the estate of her aunt and uncle. In this job, she was to look after their children and teach them. because she was so interested in helping the poor whenever she could, she included other kids, who lived on farms. doing this, helped her come in contact with Fr Woods, who had been a priest in the south-east since 1857. Two years later, she accepted a job in Portland Victoria teaching children. after teaching at Portland school, she moved on to open her own boarding school, called Bay View House Seminary for Young Ladies. Eventually, Fr Woods became very concerned about the lack of education in South Australia. So he decided to invite Mary MacKillop, along with her sisters Annie and Lexie to come and open a Catholic school.

The Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37)

A man is robbed while travelling, and as people were travelling past him they decided not to help him. Until one man saw him and decided to help. He took the man to a local inn and gave the man some money to help the man who was in need, as he needed to keep going on his travels. He then said to the innkeeper, if that isn't enough money, he is coming back through here when coming back from his travels, so he can then pay the rest then. This story takes place between Jerusalem and Jericho, as the man was travelling to Jericho from Jerusalem. The main characters in this story were the robbers, the man that got robbed, the Good Samaritan and the innkeeper. The author would have written this story, to convey the message of putting your differences aside, and to help those who are in need. This is like Mary MacKillop, when she opened schools, for children who are not as privileged as other children of the same age.

This parable which was written for the New Testament was set on a road in between Jericho and Jerusalem, in which the path was rocky, unstable and hilly. This made it easy for the robbers in this story to hide and plan out their attack. The setting was also a desert and immensely dry. The characters in this parable were the robbers, the man who got robbed, the Good Samaritan and the innkeeper.

Some other important information about the time this parable was written that, is the beliefs and laws around each religion. This is a result of them having strict rules about each faith. Also, this might have occurred in each of the different faiths having hateful remarks on each other, which then resulted in leaving the followers of each faith in control of their actions.

Background information on this story or parable displays a deeper meaning to the moral or the meaning of this story. It does this by giving the reader a personal view, it helps them understand the story more, and the opinion on what is going on in the parable of The Good Samaritan.

I believe that the author wrote this story because of the moral of putting your differences aside such as your race or beliefs, to help a person in need.

The moral of this parable is to love one another just like Jesus loves you, and putting your differences aside to help others in need without thinking about it.

The target audience for the parable of the Good Samaritan today is young children, so they can grow up to help others without thinking about it. It teaches them about the importance of being caring towards others and to not be racist and not help them due to their race or culture.

This parable, in particular, has inspired Mary to educate children in need. she has done this because Jesus would have wanted her to follow the message of this parable and help people in need, as she did for the children.
