During this event, Siddhartha would punish his body by eating and drinking only what was necessary to stay alive. He wanted to push the limits of his human body to achieve enlightenment. This event was impactful for Siddhartha because it lead him to find out abusing his body won’t lead him to a greater understanding of life. He also came to the conclusion that being ascetic was not the answer and this lead him to Middle Way.
