Last week was the week where I did my Youth in Mission. My group went to three different places for our ministry; Menara Tirza Christian School, Chrysalis School, and Christian Pentakosta Yerusalem Church. All of those locations are located in Gading Serpong, except the church, it is located in Sukasari. My group consists of seven people from my class. We did our Youth in Mission for 5 days, from Tuesday to Friday and lastly Sunday, mostly from 7 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Day 1

I was a bit late because of my confusion with the location of the school. There was this islamic school beside the school I’m supposed to serve, I messed up and accidentally went inside the islamic school. But I then figured and went to the school beside it. The day started with the children gathering in the school’s hall, one of the teacher was playing the keyboard and the rest of the teacher sang and danced with the kids. We sang lots of nursery rhymes, sunday school songs, and my group also introduced ourselves mid-singing. Then they prayed to start their school day.

It came to our teaching session, my group prepared a presentation explaining about hobbies and careers. We also prepared worksheets, that the kids did after we were done explaining the material to them. The whole class was filled with excitement, everybody raised their hands when we asked “who wants to be a police?” Although as I checked the worksheets, every kid has their own dream career, the ones I could remember are; firefighter, doctor, and dancer.

After our material, we assisted the class while the other teachers were teaching. We also accompanied and talked to the kids at lunch time, they’re very talkative. I had to help feed one of the kids because she couldn’t hold the spoon. Then they all went home, there were kids who hadn’t been picked up though, so i read a story book to entertain them.

Day 2

I was told to prepare a storytelling of Noah’s ark for the kids, so me and one of my friend did. We started the day with the kids dancing and singing in the hall. Then they lined up for an activity we had planned for them. It was a physical activity where the kids have to jump over a stick then do a zig zag run. The kids really enjoyed it, especially the boys, they were super energetic.

We then head to our class and start the morning devotion, the class was lively, everyone was curious about the story of Noah’s ark. We ended our morning storytelling with a QnA, where all of the kids were eager to answer the questions.

We continued the class with teaching them family tree. We also made the kids do a worksheet where they could color a family tree. As soon as they were done we assisted them throughout class and played with them during lunch. Seeing the kids happy, me and my friend went out and bought erasers shaped like cartoon characters for them. Then we gave the erasers to the kids, they told their parents about it when they got picked up from school.

Day 3

This was our last day at Menara Tirza, so we prepared something a little extra. We opened the day with a PE lesson where we did rhythm exercises to the song; Poco Poco, LOVE, and Everybody Everywhere. The kids were jumping and dancing and they could follow along really well.

We head to our classroom then I was given the task to teach their art class, so I did. The teacher told me to teach the kids how to draw a school bus with crayons. I went to the front of the class and started teaching them step by step. Each kid’s drawing was unique, most was neat and perfect, then there’s the ones that made complete mess. But then again art is art and it doesn’t have to be neat and perfect.

We then assisted them with their studies and also helped the teacher with the materials. We played and talked to them during lunch. I prepared goodie bags to give to the kids, one of my friend went out to buy something for the teachers. My group ended our ministry there by giving the kids their goodie bags and giving the teachers a cake. Unexpectedly, the teacher gave us donuts to thank us for our ministry, we were grateful for the time we had at Menara Tirza.
