John A. MacDonald - Building Canada

John Alexander MacDonald was the prime minister of Canada from 1867-73 and from 1878-91 he studied law and became a lawyer and was also a business man and a politician. He build a railroad that lead to the western part of Canada. As well as, he organised the residential schools.

Why/how did he help or not help Canada

John A MacDonald was controversial in the sense that he created a railroad that lead from the eastern part of Canada to the western part of Canada which was a good thing however the railroad would change how the they people would get to their homes as well how how animals would be able to access their foods/resources. Moreover, animals also like to migrate in different places so it would be difficult for the animals to migrate. During the time John A MacDonald created the railroad, he did kicked people off where they had lived and had to emigrate and live somewhere else. Which is what John A. MacDonald should have not done. He should have talked it through with them, instead of just taking them away from where their home is. John A. MacDonald was involved in organising the residential schools, which was not such a great thing as a lot of indigenous people suffered from all the trauma that they experienced from getting their language, beliefs, what they wore, and their culture getting taken away. So good that he build a railroad that lead from the eastern part of Canada to the western part of Canada so that people could travel but also bad that he was involved in organising the residential schools.

Alexander Graham Bell - Industrial Revolution

Alexander Graham Bell was a man who created the telephone in 1876.

The telephone he made had two ends, a transmitter and a receiver. The transmitter was the part you would speak and the when the voice would go into the transmitter it would cause the diaphragm to vibrate. Afterwards the electric current would travel through the electromagnet, following that, it would travel through the wire and end up at the receivers end. At that time when you spoke into the phone you could barely hear the person voice as the phone was so old and it was just the first phone Alexander graham bell created.

Why/how did this invention help Canada or did not help Canada

In my opinion, I think that this invention helped Canada because it helps us communicate throughout the country. We can call someone from another Province/Territory instead of having to find a means of transportation just to see your friends/relative. Now the telephone has evolved into a smartphone where we can use it more than just calling, we can text people and even video call them, play video games, as well as use social media to watch reels or look at post that people have posted . If Alexander graham bell saw the phones now he would be very shocked to see how much the telephone has evolved into from the phone being connected into a wall to landlines, to smartphones.

Mary Wollstonecraft - Industrial Revolution

Mary Wollstonecraft was a British feminist who fought for women to prove that women should be just as equal as men, and that schools should include both women and men.

Why/How does this help or not help Canada

In my opinion, I think Mary Wollstonecraft helped Canada become what it is today such as, she fought for women's rights, and made sure that women would be able to go to school. Today we see that such as, we go to school with ladies, we have friends that are women, we work together with women, and women have a variety of jobs such as, Lawyer, Firefighter, Police officer. We even have sports teams for both men and women, as well as women play basketball and many other sports. Therefore, I think that Mary Wollstonecraft helped Canada based on her beliefs and what she did to help Canada be equal.

First Contact - Colonialism & Imperialism

first contact was a time period when the Europeans decided to come to Canada to emigrate. When they arrived to Canada they made first contact with the indigenous people. Both groups had very different beliefs such as, the Europeans believed that people were ordered from top to bottom (hierarchy), whereas the indigenous people believed that everyone was equal and had their own rights. This affected how both groups got along with each other as the Europeans took away their beliefs, how they lived, their occupations.

In my opinion, I think that first contact did not help Canada for the reason the Europeans took away their beliefs, occupations, and their language. This is what happened in residential schools and that trauma has passed down a lot of generations and has affect a lot of people. for those reasons the indigenous people developed a lot of trauma from what the nuns/teachers did to them. Therefore, I do not believe that first contact helped Canada.

King Louis XIV - French Revolution

King Louis the 16th was the King of France many people did not like him as he did a lot of bad things such as, he made the poor pay taxes, he took away their money and their food, he also had a wife named Marie Antoinette, many people did not like as she was not actually French she was Austrian. Antoinette's words were “let them eat cake” which meant she did not care about any of the peasants. As well as King Louis, did not care whether the people were suffering. Eventually people had formed this mob where everyone got out of control and were so mad about how King Louis unfair decisions. On January 12th 1793 King Louis died from the guillotine

In my opinion, I think King Louis influenced Canada because now as a society in Canada we can choose who we want our leader to be. As we as, we can have a say as to whether we think this leader would be a good leader or a bad leader for Canada.
