Two workers from Domino's decided to film themselves doing unhygienic things in the kitchen while they were making food (Clifford). They posted the video online where millions of people saw it (Clifford).
Response to the Video

Even though the two workers claimed the video a joke ("Dominos"), they were fired, arrested, and charged with delivering prohibited foods (Clifford). It took Dominos two days to respond after the video had been posted ("Dominos"). Dominos issued a statement saying “The opportunities and freedom of the Internet is wonderful. But it also comes with the risk of anyone with a camera and an Internet link to cause a lot of damage, as in this case, where a couple of individuals suddenly overshadow the hard work performed by the 125,000 men and women working for Domino’s across the nation and in 60 countries around the world" ("Dominos"). The president of Dominos also filmed a video apologizing for the behavior of the two workers and reminding his customers of the other hard workers they have around the world ("Dominos"). Later that year, Domino’s spokesperson Tim McIntyre said "We got blindsided by two idiots with a video camera and an awful idea. Even People who’ve been with us as loyal customers for 10, 15, 20 years, people are second-guessing their relationship with Domino’s and that’s not fair" ("Social Media"). In a matter of days, Domino's reputation had been ruined (Clifford).

How I Would Have Handle It

I think Dominos did a good job handling the situation. I'd just do a couple of things differently. First of all I would've responded faster to the video. This way, there would be less views on the video and less word would have gone around about the video. I'd fire the two workers who posted the video and reinforce the health code to the current workers. I would also have lockers for the workers to put their phones in while they work; they can use them during breaks. On the public relations side, I'd start off by making an apology video and statement, then I'd create more social media accounts and become more interactive with the customers. I'd have people reply on the company account quickly when customers have complaints. Making a YouTube channel would also probably be a good idea. Showing a behind the scenes of the process of making the pizzas and the sanitation could help the company's reputation and help reassure customers. I might also interview workers at Dominos for the YouTube channel to help clear customer's minds from the misbehaving workers in the scandal video.
