Overtime, beauty standards have emerged to be out of reach and unrealistic. In many countries, the beauty standard often promotes a thinner body with Western features. This is emphasized from a young age. In Kholmogorova's study (2017), it is evident that the toys that children play with, are a constant reminder reminder of these beauty standards, subtly giving off the idea that people who do not look this way are unattractive or not enough. They are made to be "pretty" and socially accepted. As a result, people who feel that they don't fit the standard try to change themselves. According to Register Et al. (2015), people who are often exposed to idealized images that are unattainable, draw attention to intractable flaws in appearance, which results in comparison, shame, and mood disturbance. For others, the mood disturbance could be much more significant, leading to dangerous eating disorders, mental health disorders, and more. Overtime, the numbers of mental health disorders and eating disorders have gone up to dangerously high numbers, affecting several age ranges, and especially our youth. Due to these societal pressures, it can shape ones identity and take part in other widespread issues like body dysmorphia. It highlights the urgency for a more inclusive and diverse representation of beauty across the globe.
