1. The belief that behavioral differences are acquired because of inherited physical characteristics is known as biological determinism. This is just a theory and does not have scientific proof. If this was true, all men and women would act in uniform because of their gender.
2. Girls and boys tend to behave based on what their parents expect. This leads to gender identity, which is why you may act masculine or feminine.
3. The male's brain is more specialized than the female's. The male's brain is more active in the region of adaptive evolutionary responses, such as fighting. The female's brain is more active in a region that is tied to emotional expression.
4. Biological determinists think that all men and women from many cultures have different ways of behaving. For example, men look more for physical appearances when looking for a relationship and females look more for social class and income.
6. People who do not believe in biological determinism believe that gender roles are not fixed at birth, but are determined by their culture.
7. In the movie "A League of Their Own", the first women's baseball team was formed. Society had a problem with this because it was believed that baseball is a “man's sport.” Society felt that women were not strong enough or fast enough to play baseball, or to be as good as men are. This is an example of gender discrimination and sexism.

8. In the early 1900's, it was expected that women and men had a certain "role." The women's role was to always make her husband happy and to never make him upset. This was evident in the 1955 article "The Good Wife's Guide." It stated, "A good wife should always know her place" and to "show sincerity in your desire to please him."
