  • Make a Family Emergency Plan. Your family may not be together when disaster strikes, so it is important to know how you will contact one another, how you will get back together and what you will do in case of an emergency.

    Practice "drop, cover and hold on" until it becomes second nature.     In a real earthquake, this is your number one defense. Drop to the floor, take cover under a sturdy desk or table and hold on firmly.
    Have an Emergency Earthquake Kit ready at all times. Thermal imaging techniques and satellite cameras can be used to detect heat around a volcano, and gas samples may be taken and chemical sensors used to measure sulfur levels. Managing natural disasters can be done by prediction and preparation.
