This was one of the main speeches that helped inspire freedom in India. Gandhi's speech emphasizing the freedom and rights were more important than our lives was inspiring and an important part of the quit India movement. THe british tried their hardest to try and censor his speech but in the end people caught on to the mantra and protested for independence. But eventually the protests started getting violent because of Hindu Muslim conflict.

****I tried whatever I could but i could not get rid of the add in the scribble link.

The Indian Independence movement had many important events that helped achieve justice but one of the main events was the Salt March of 1930. This event led by Gandhi was one of the first and largest national acts of nonviolence in the movement. Gandhi was disobeying the British government by walking from his ashram in Ahmedabad to the ocean in 24 days and making salt. The main people involved in this were Mahatma Gandhi and his followers along with many other political leaders. Indian nationalists and many people around the world took interest. Many people along the route of the march followed suit, “with each passing day an increasing number of people joined the salt satyagraha.” (History.com Editors, 2010). This event was basically a major act of civil disobedience to demonstrate Gandhi’s ideas of satyagraha. It was a way to unify people and fight for justice in a simple and impactful way. The salt march was basically a march to the Arabian Sea Coast of India to defy the salt tax imposed by the British. This law made it illegal to produce salt by yourself. This event caused “the arrest of nearly 60,000 people, including Gandhi himself.” but also unified India because, “ all Indians required salt.”(History.com editors). The impact of this event was a turning point for Indian independence because it “ prompted an international outcry against British policy in India.” People around the world were astonished at the treatment of the Indian people. Moreover the nonviolent action of Gandhi was very big and so many people started joining the cause.

This was one of Gandhi's first large-scale movements to get home rule. This was an answer to previous injustices such as the Rowlatt act and the amritsar massacre. This movement was the transition from freedom movements from the educated to all people.
