One thing that stuck out to me is the emphasis on how many different factors need to be taken into account to have a truly multicultural education. Culture, race, socioeconomics, family history, neighborhoods, nationality, sexuality... the list can go on and on. And yet, at the end of it, the individuals themselves are the culmination of all these factors and the emphasis should be place on getting to know them as a unique being.

Erin Mylroie Students that do not well maybe showing resistance to the system. Students can be inattentive, fail to do homework, and bring negative attitudes and even violence to the school. How we respond to these resistant behaviors will have a lifelong impact for students. Zero tolerance disciplinary approaches can send these kids on the path to incarceration.

Discipline is a much more complicated subject then we tend to realize. as educators we are often one of the first disciplinarians in a child's life. How we treat and discipline children will have a life long effect on them and their own impacts on society as they grow. Negative or zero tolerance discipline can often cause students to feel 'cast out' and left behind and leads them on a path towards a life behind bars since they have spent their entire lives shut away as a 'bad kid'.
