         <description><![CDATA[<div>SMAR (substitution, augmentation, modification, and redefinition), which describes the hierarchical levels of technology use. The lower level starts with the technology being used as a direct substitution tool, such as reading from a PowerPoint slide instead of writing notes on a blackboard. From substitution there is a progression to three other levels: augmentation, modification, and redefinition. This model can be used to describe the levels teachers follow as they adopt technology.</div>]]></description>
