During the conflict, Germany, Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria and the Ottoman Empire (the Central Powers) fought against Great Britain, France, Russia, Italy, Romania, Japan and the United States (the Allied Powers).

This war was very different from conflicts of the past. For the first time, powerful new weapons and vehicles were used – at sea, on land and in the air – resulting in many people being killed or wounded. In Britain, you could sometimes hear what sounded like thunder coming across the English Channel from Europe. In fact, it was the huge boom of big guns, called artillery, being fired on the Western Front. 75% of all men who died in World War 1 were killed by artillery.

The trenches were built even bigger and the bombs blew up more and more. People were all over the place, shooting, fireing, and running. I felt like this war was going on forever! If someone took one step out the trench they could get sniped or shot under 1 second! It was horrible and lots of people were dying. It felt like i was a cow in a butchers shop with other cows. I was scared but i had to do it for the world! My brother was right beside me too and he almost got shot in the arm. But we were safe down below in the deep trenches.

I was tired. I got shot in the leg, my brother was hurt. I had to bandage him up with something, but there was nothing around. So i had to use a dead persons jacket to wrap it up. His shoulder and his hand were both shot. We thought as soon as we were finish with this we could go home and take a nice shower, and rest, eat all the food we wanted. But, it felt we couldn’t, it felt like we were stuck here forever. We didn’t want to be out there anymore. We got up and fought, fought for OUR country and world! We didn’t feel like we were hurt anymore, we felt like heroes. The heroes we were, fought till the end.

Forever really does mean FOREVER. It kept on going, like siblings fighting. I wasn’t hurt, neither was my brother. But alot of the soilders we were with at first— died. My brother and i were at a different trench and it was alot bigger and had more weapons left behind. This time it was dead silent. Horses laid on the ground dead meat, the skies were filled with Smoke and grey clouds. Me and my brother and a couple of other soilders were left behind, and we didn’t know what to do. We stayed and the trench for the rest of the night, until someone will come from our side. We laid down and watch the sky clear with stars. We were finally resting.

1:00Am in the morning. “Tssssssssssssssss”. TONY, GUYS WAKE UP! They woke up grumpy saying, “WHAT?” I said, “do you hears that? “Tssssssssssssss” “MUSTARD GAS!” We all said. We had to run out as quickly as possible before we could istantly die. We all put our masks’ on and ran as quick as possible. One of the soilders were still asleep. We yelled out his name as loud as we could! He didn’t wake up. The mustard gas reached him and he woke up. He started screaming at the top of his lungs, itching himself and gasping for air. It was the most horrible thing. But we had one question, who sprayed the mustard gas?
Everything was going wrong.
To be continued..
