On the sunlight plant, cover part of a leaf with black paper to block light.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p>3. After 24 hours, detach the leaves to be tested.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p>4. Boil the leaf in water for 2 minutes to soften it.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p>5. Soak the leaf in alcohol placed in hot water until it becomes pale (removes chlorophyll).</p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p>6. Rinse the leaf in warm water to soften.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p>7. When a plant is deprived of light, it stops producing chlorophyll, resulting in the pale or yellow appearance.</p><p> </p><p>Etiolation: The Plant's Response to Darkness</p><p> </p><p>- Survival Mechanism: Etiolation is a survival mechanism. The plant elongates its stem rapidly to try and reach a light source.</p><p>- Resource Allocation: The plant prioritizes stem growth over leaf development, resulting in a weak, elongated structure. It's essentially using its stored energy reserves in a desperate attempt to find light.</p><p> </p><p>Impact on Plant Health</p><p> </p><p>- Energy Depletion: Without light, the plant can't replenish its energy stores through photosynthesis. Setting Up the Treatments</p><p><br></p><p> - Plant A – With light + CO₂ (experimental):</p><p>•Place the plant in bright light (sunlight or lamp).</p><p>•Put a small cup with water + baking soda (CO₂ source) inside a transparent plastic bag.</p><p>•Cover the plant loosely with the bag.</p><p><br></p><p>- Plant B – Without light (light control)</p><p>•Place the plant inside a cardboard box to block light.</p><p>•Put a cup of plain water inside the bag.</p><p>•Cover the plant the same way as Plant A.</p><p><br></p><p>- Plant C – With light, no added CO₂ (CO₂ control):</p><p>•Place in the same light as Plant A.</p><p>•Put a cup of plain water inside a plastic bag.</p><p>•Cover the plant loosely.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p>3. EXPERIMENT</p><p>•Leave the plants in their respective setups for 6–24 hours.</p><p>•Use a timer to track exposure.</p><p>•Take photos or short videos (optional, as proof).</p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p>4. Testing the Leaves for Starch</p><p>• After exposure, pick one mature leaf from each plant and  label them A, B, and C.</p><p>• Boil each leaf in water (1–2 min) to soften.</p><p>• Transfer leaves into hot alcohol (in a beaker placed in a hot water bath) until leaves become pale/whitish.</p><p>•Rinse the leaves briefly in warm water to soften them.</p><p>•Spread each leaf on a white dish and cover with iodine solution.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p>5. This means that photosynthesis took place actively under these conditions.&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><p>•Plant B, which was kept in complete darkness inside a box, did not change color and remained yellow-brown, showing that no starch was produced because light was absent.&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><p>•Plant C, which was placed in light but without extra carbon dioxide, turned only partly blue-black with lighter or patchy areas. This softens the leaf and breaks down cell membranes.</p><p>- Place the leaf in a beaker containing alcohol (ethanol).</p><p>Removing Chlorophyll:</p><p>- Heat the alcohol using a water bath (place the beaker in hot water) until the leaf decolorizes, removing chlorophyll. In contrast, the pale yellow parts, lacking chlorophyll, did not produce starch and remained brown after the iodine test.          <description><![CDATA[<p>We destarched both of the plants and left it on the dark overnight.
