         <description><![CDATA[<p>In this video, all three of <strong>Newton's laws </strong>were demonstrated. <strong>Newton's First Law </strong>was shown as when I started spinning, I continued to spin steadily until a<strong> force </strong>(such as <strong>friction </strong>from the ice) slowed me down. The video also demonstrated <strong>Newton's Second Law</strong> as I applied <strong>force </strong>to the ice to actually start spinning (the more<strong> force</strong> you apply when you push, the faster you <strong>accelerate)</strong> Someone who is a lighter skater may spin faster with the same push because: <strong>F = ma.</strong> Lastly, when I pushed backwards with my skate, the ice pushed me forward/around with the SAME amount of <strong>force</strong> but in the <strong>opposite direction</strong>, because of <strong>Newton's Third Law </strong>That is essentially how to begin a spin; creating an <strong>action-reaction force</strong> (between your skate and the ice). </p><p><br></p><ul><li><p>Melanie Aladjadjian (Q1)</p></li></ul>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Inertia is the tendency of an object to resist changes in its motion. When a car suddenly stops, your body wants to keep moving forward because of inertia. If you <strong>don’t wear a seat belt</strong>, nothing stops your body, so you might lunge forward and hit the dashboard or windshield. If you <strong>do wear a seat belt</strong>, the belt provides the unbalanced force needed to stop your body safely along with the car. In both cases, your body’s motion is showing inertia — the difference is whether something (the seat belt) stops that motion safely.</p>]]></description>

         <title>Spondita Das - Kinetic Energy, Collision, Force, Energy Transfer/Conversion, &amp; Newton&#39;s 3rd Law</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<ol><li><p><strong>Kinetic energy</strong> is the energy of moving matter. As you can see, the lime has kinetic energy (it's moving). In car crashes, cars with greater kinetic energy experience a greater impact in collisions. The kinetic energy will also be transferred or converted to other types of energy, such as thermal energy or sound energy.</p></li><li><p>A<strong> collision</strong> is an interaction between two objects that physically come into contact with each other. In my example, I high-fived another person, and our hands collided. The collision demonstrates a transfer of energy where kinetic energy is converted to thermal or sound energy. Regarding safety, cars in crashes collide with another object. Collisions can damage the vehicle or injure the passenger/passengers.</p></li><li><p><strong>Force</strong> can be defined as a push or pull. In the video, I pushed the ball (or rather threw it), and it accelerated. Gravity also applied a force to the ball by pulling it towards the Earth. The potential energy of the ball is transferred to kinetic energy. In car collisions, the amount of force a car applies to another can determine the amount of damage it experiences or the severity of the injuries of the passengers.</p></li><li><p><strong>Energy transfer/conversion</strong> is the movement of energy. My example demonstrated energy conversion when I flipped the switch and turned on the lights. The electrical energy is converted into light and thermal energy. Energy is also transferred during car crashes. When a car collides with another object, it transfers its energy to the other object.</p></li><li><p><strong>Newton’s Third Law</strong> states that every action has an equal and opposite reaction. When the car crashed into the wall, it applied a force to it (action), and the wall applied one back (reaction), causing the vehicle to move backwards. The amount of force the car applies will be the same amount the wall exerts back. Crumple zones in cars absorb a significant portion of the impact force. Cars have seatbelts and airbags to reduce the amount of force the passenger experiences when the other object returns the force (reaction).</p></li></ol>]]></description>

You notice that I am going faster when the sounds happen faster. (So revolutionary!) Same thing when going slower, less sound is heard from it.</p>]]></description>

         <title>Newton&#39;s 3 Laws- Ananya Devulapalli</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>This video shows how forces are important during object collisions and how Newton's 3 Laws can apply to the real world. Just before I kicked the board, it was released. It was going downwards in the same direction with the same speed which shows Newton's 1st Law of an object's inertia, the tendency for an object to resist the change in motion unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. The board would have kept going down until it hit the floor. My kick was the unbalanced force. When I kicked the board, I changed the board's motion. In addition, it went in the same direction as my kick with greater force. This shows Newton's 2nd Law of </p><p>Force= Mass (Acceleration). With greater force and greater mass, I was able to accelerate the board's motion at a faster rate. This also shows Newton's 3rd Law because when my foot kicked the board, the board applied an equal and opposite force back onto my foot. These action and reaction pairs always occur at the point of impact, which caused my foot to even burn a little afterwards! Newton's 3 Laws help to explain how and why motion changes between different objects during a collision.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Potential energy is the stored energy an object possesses due to its position, state or arrangement within a force field. The ring and hook game is an example of continous conversion between potential energy and kinetic energy. When I pull the ring back and up I'm increasing its potential energy. The release turns into kinetic energy as the rings speed increases, but when the rings returns to its starting point the energy is converted back to potential energy.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Friction is the force that opposes all motion. Since I made the pedals on the bike start rotating, it transferred energy to the gear and wheels to start rotating too. When I pressed the brake handle on the bike out of the frame, it uses air pressure to transfer energy to the brake pads to press together on the gear. The pads and gear created friction, which opposed the movement of the gear rotating, so friction stopped it, which in turn stopped the wheel that is connected to the gear. The brake system of basically every vehicle is based on the concept of friction.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p> Newton's third law says that whenever a force is exerted&nbsp;on an object, there's an equal and opposite reaction. This video represents Newton's&nbsp;third law because when I jump, I apply force on the trampoline, and the trampoline applies a force on me. Because of the force, I can do a flip. Examining this with other forces, gravity and I put a force on the trampoline, then the trampoline and its normal force pushes on me.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>This video shows energy transfer because as I swing the bat, it gains kinetic energy. And the faster I swing the bat, the more kinetic energy it has. However, there are many other ways that this video shows energy transfer because when the bat hits the baseball, some of the bats kinetic energy is transferred to the ball. Also as the ball decompresses, the stored potential energy is converted back into kinetic energy. Then this kinetic energy propels the ball away from the bat. Lastly, not all of the bats kinetic energy is transferred to the ball. Some of the energy is converted into other forms such as the sound that you can hear when the bat hits the ball, and a small amount of heat due to friction. In summary this is why the video I provided above shows energy transfer.</p>]]></description>

Even though the car stops, my body keeps moving forward because of inertia, which is an object’s resistance to change in motion.          <description><![CDATA[<p>Kinetic Energy is the energy an object has because it’s moving. In my video I showed it by bouncing a ball on the ground. The moment of the ball as it bounces and my hands interacting with it are all examples of kinetic energy because the ball is in motion. The motion of the ball as it hits the ground and bounces back up is an example of kinetic energy in action. </p>]]></description>
