A) I found that the interview was meaningful and something that helps us get closer with the people we interviewed. My grandparents are usually out of town at the time of the year we did D3 so it was good to talk to them since I don't hear from them much when they are out of town.
B) I thought that D2 was not really that important since it was hard to tell how the memoir fit with some of the animations. I honestly would have preferred a power point with one slide showing the memoir and explain how it connects to today.
C) My opinion has stayed mostly the same before starting the unit, but it has changed a bit. One of things that has changed my opinion was that of how useless would be due to debunked myths about immigration.
-Chase Dudum

a.) I found the interviewing of an immigrant very meaningful. I had known this person for almost my whole life, but I never knew her story, and it was very interesting to be able to sit down with her and listen(translate because she speaks very little English) to her story.
b.) I honestly felt that while the unit was very interesting an important, the projects that went along with it were very meaningless. we could have used our time better by doing one larger project and not 4 projects.
c.) To be completely honest, my opinion didn't change at all really. I was raised around people who immigrated both legally, and illegally that were basically my family, and continue to be today. I feel that by doing this project, it did make me become more informed on the topic, but at the same time felt it was just review of information that I had already known .

a) I found the interview very meaningful, but I thought it was much more useful after what we learned to be able to try and tackle the immigration problem in our own way. Usually in high school we are not able to find our own political beliefs on subjects.
b) I felt that the animation felt useless in the beginning due to the amount of work we had to put into it. But after completing it, I felt a deeper connection to the project due to that work I put in. By far the coolest media for a project I've used.
c) I have changed some of my beliefs, but now I actually know why I hold those beliefs and I can justify them. I have more on a moderate belief now knowing that both parties need to work together to fix this immigration problem.

Also working on animation helped me practice my animation skills.
b). I felt that the first deliverable was kinda dumb because I didn't learn anything new when creating the video. Also creating the video so that the pictures were in sequence with the song was difficult.
c). My viewpoints on immigration haven't changed at all after finishing the Immigration Unit. I may have a tiny bit more empathy for immigrants who are stuck in bad scenarios and have to leave their homes and countries.

(a) I found Deliverable 3 to be very meaningful because I was able to interview an immigrant and learn more about the process. It was very beneficial for me because the immigrant I interviewed was my mother, and it was a great bonding experience and discussion for us to have.
(b) I think Deliverable 1 was useless because it was difficult to work on as a group. I felt that the video didn't have an effect on anyone other than our class compared to Deliverable 4 which effected people in the community as well.
(c) Before doing this unit, I had some negative thoughts on immigration and how it should be dealt with. However, my knowledge of immigration has changed drastically because I didn't know very much on what it was and the different situations people had to go through. I was surprised to learn how difficult the process of becoming a citizen was and the struggles some immigrants go through when trying to enter the country.

The whole assignment opened my eyes as to how lazy I was being in regards to my school work, not just in this class. Deliverable #3 reminded me that school is not easy, and that in order to do well effort must be put forward.
B)
I think that the other deliverable were not necessary, and that the entire project should have been the animation.
C) At the beginning of the unit I was pretty hard against immigration. now at the end of the unit i feel that all that matters is that family stays together.

a) one activity that I found meaningful was the interview. I interviewed my friend's grandma and it helped me with my speaking skills, as well as learning more about my friend's family and their story. I think it was a fun experience because it was a way to express my final product in a different way instead of just sitting at a desk and writing an essay or taking a test.
b) One activity that felt useless was the six word memoir. I am still not sure why we do them because they play no actual role in any other deliverable. It is just something very random and it pertained nothing to my deliverable 1, 3, or 4. It is just six words on a document which doesn't make much sense and doesn't help me understand anything or change my viewpoints.
c) One part of my idea of immigration that has changed is the difficulty of immigration. Through my interview I learned that it is extremely hard to immigrate and the immigrants are leaving lots of things behind just for an opportunity in a new country that they barely know anything about just for a new beginning. I also learned that people who immigrate don't plan out what they are doing when they immigrate to a new country. they are just coming and hoping for a new and better life.

a) I found that the interview for D3 was most meaningful because we were required to actually reach out to someone and learn their personal story. I learned a lot about my friend's story and how it has influenced the views he has today which was very interesting to me.
b) I felt that D1 was not useful because it didn't help with practicing animation. In addition, finding images to match the song didn't really make me learn anything, especially since we hadn't done any notes or activities yet.
c) My knowledge of immigration has expanded from this project - mainly from the interview. D1 and D2 did not teach me anything knew, since it was based upon our prior knowledge of immigration. However, I learned from D3 through listening to and then presenting a specific story. This gave me a new perspective which challenged my own, so I liked that.

It was interesting to learn about the education process in Europe and comparing it to the US process.
b) I felt that the 6 word memoir was useless. It seemed that the purpose was for us to be familiar with the themes of the unit, but the other deliverables included the themes too.
c) My knowledge about immigration has grown after the the unit. I know more about the reasons why people migrate to the US whether those reasons be education or hostile living in original home. My opinions about immigration have changed slightly because of the different perspectives that we learned.

Immigration Unit Reflection

(a) An activity that I found meaningful was the interview in D3. It was inspiring to hear someones life story and gave me a new perspective on things.
(b) An activity that felt useless to me was the six word memoir. I think the only part of that that was helpful was that it was an intro to animation.
(c) My opinion has changed because I am now more informed. Also my opinion has changed after talking to an actual immigrant and getting a new perspective.

Immigration Unit Reflection
a) I found the interview process to be meaningful. Before, I wasn't really educated on how immigrating works so I learned a lot of about green cards and citizenship.
b) Something that felt useless was the amount of animation that D3 needed. It seemed like a lot for a 2 and a half minute video, especially because I had to draw everything.
c) My opinion has changed after seeing the difficulties of getting a green card/ becoming a citizen, and the reasons people migrate to America.

This was meaningless because creating the six word memoir didn't teach me anything about immigration or have a big impact on me.
c) Something that I've leaned, and that has changed my mind is the immigration process.
Immigration Unit Reflection
(a) I found interviewing my immigrant to be the most meaningful experience from the project. I don't think you can really understand a situation until you have talked to someone who had actually experienced it. Before my interview 'immigrant' was just another word that didn't hold much context for me, but afterwards I had a more well rounded view on what it really meant.
(b) I thought that the six word memior was sort of unless, I don't think six words are able to actually make a difference. I just felt that it didn't really contribute anything to my knowledge of immigration.
(c) My idea of immigration has changed in a sense that I now know and have a bigger understanding of what it actually means to be an immigrant. There are so many different definitions I was introduced to that I now have a broader picture of immigration as whole. I had never really thought very hard into immigration before this project nor had I ever had a sit down conversation with one.

A. the interview process was really interesting and it was super fun to turn someones story into a video.
B. I think the 6 word memoir was useless. We didn't get to really say much with that part of the project. Also it didn't contribute to any other part of the project it just stood alone as a way to get extra points towards the total.
C. My knowledge of immigration and immigrants had heightened. There is much more that I could tell others about the immigration process.

I found the interview with my friend meaningful because I know her story now and why she had to move. The process of applying for a visa was interesting to learn. I felt that deliverable #2 was useless as the short video didn't really contribute to the final product in #3. The six word memoir didn't really change anything. My opinion of migration has not really changed but now I acknowledge all the hard steps it takes to move to a new country. It is important to continue to understand the immigration process to be able to speak on the topic.

Because of this I was able to learn about the history of my family, where we came from, and why we came to America.
B. I felt that D2 was pretty useless. I struggled with animation and I didn't see the point in making a video just to show off 3 words. I would have rather done something like a poster where we get to draw the words.
c. My ideas, opinion, and know ledge on immigration has changed over this assignment. I am now aware of the struggles they face with just trying to make a better life for themselves. I also learned how many people are actually affected by problems with immigration.

Immigration Unit Reflection
A) I found that the D3 was the most meaningful take away from the immigration unit. It was really fun to learn more about my dad's past. The interview helped me to better understand what he went through.
B) I felt that the the six word memoir was useless. I found it difficult to make, and struggled a lot when I was trying to share it. It also did not help me learn anything new about immigration.
C) My opinion on immigration has not really changed that much. One thing that has changed for me during this unit is how much new information I now have about immigration.

a) My favorite part of the immigration unit was the D3 interview. I interviewed my cousin's husband who I didn't know that well. Learning about his personal story gave me another way to look at him.
b) D1 felt useless because choosing a song to find key themes felt like extra work. Reading about stories in immigration or watching videos would allow us to find key themes as well as learn.
c) My opinion on immigration has changed in a positive way. Learning about people's journeys to come to the US gave me another perspective. The amount of work that it takes for someone to come to the US means that someone really wants to be in this country. The opportunities for someone in America allows someone to live a happier life.

This is the first class I have had in school that has forced me to reach out to someone i don't know well and ask them personal questions.
b) Something I found useless about the unit was the animation part. Personally, i feel like i didn't learn any useful skills from that part of the project, but I did learn how difficult it is to make an animation.
c) My opinions on immigration haven't really changed due to this unit, but I have learned that there were a significant number of Russians/citizens of the USSR that were separated from their family due to travel restrictions from the cold war. I learned about Soviet/Russian culture and how it compares to american culture.

It also gave me a chance to learn more reasons for immigration.
I think D4 was not very useful because after we finished D3 we had already learned a lot about immigration and a lot of people that my group was asking about didn’t have very much to say about it that my group and I did not know already. Although, it was a good chance to bond and get to know our classmates better. Overall I think this unit was a good way to learn about immigration. I think in order to improve we should learn more about the history of immigration opposed to the modern day problem today because I feel like I learned more about immigration today as opposed to immigration in the passed.

I don't think the first deliverable was that meaningful. I don't think it was that meaningful because we had to find picture of immigration and put them to a Bob Dylan song. It was a good start to the unit but I don't think was very necessary.
C. I knew moving to a whole new place was hard to do because of all of the changes, but moving to a whole new country with nothing really there for you is extremely hard. Thankfully Francis (my sisters roommate) had a job to come to, had friends here, nad had a place to stay with his friends. Immigration is a hard process that many people have to deal with.

a) An activity that I found useful was the interview with an immigrant, and just deliverable three in general. Through this deliverable, I was able to hear and understand different perspectives which opened my eyes to current and past immigration issues in the US.

b) I don't believe any of the process was "useless" because everything teaches something, whether it be a very important theme, or a minute detail. But of all of the deliverables, I think that deliverable 2, or the 6 word memoir was the least meaningful. I understand that it was meant to introduce key themes and the process of animation, but I felt that it was a little unnecessary as we had already discussed key themes, and I feel like I could do just as well on deliverable 3 even if I hadn't done deliverable 2.

c) Again, this project definitely opened my eyes to different perspectives of people who suffer from immigration issues. It has made me much more aware of the issues people must suffer through just to obtain a better life. It made me consider the harshness of not only the immigration process but the way people treat immigrants. I truly believe that everyone should be entitled to, and inherently deserving of happiness, yet many , including the person I had interviewed, after seeking refugee, or simply a better life, are unfairldenied this ideal.

Overall, the interview was KEY!
(b) An activity that felt useless to me was D1. Not only was the incorporation of Bob Dylan confusing, but, it was challenging to work as a team when iMovie is unable to be shared. With this, it is evident that I could have gained the same animation knowledge from D2 as D1.
(c) Before this unit, I was aware of the immigration crises from the news and even discussions at Youth&Government conferences. However, this unit gave me an opportunity to connect individually with the crises. I was able to hear about the wonderful opportunities that were available to Mary, but, I was able to understand how unfair it is that some individuals do not receive those opportunities as easily. This unit opened my eyes to BOTH sides of the worldwide conflict.

a) an activity from this unit that I found meaningful was the interview. The interview process made it so much easier to smoothly make the video and have all the needed information together and not have to ask them something you didn't know every time a question arose. It also in a way made it more personal to interview the person and learn details about their life that were not known before.
B) an activity I found useless was the first deliverable. I don't think that making a short video was helpful to this whole unit because It could have been about anything and I personally found it frustrating. The Bob Dylan song too I found was pointless.
C) My ideas about immigration/migration has definitely changed because I knew the basic of what these things were, but now I know how important and controversial these issues are and how much they come up in our current society. I also learned how much trouble immigrants/migrants go through. I also leaned that people don't only leave for opportunity but for safety and issues going on in their home town. I also didn't know that there were so many organizations that help immigrants.

(a) An activity from the unit I found meaningful was learning about the number of people that are undocumented immigrants, and especially the process they have to go through to become documented. What I also thought was getting to know more of my moms story of immigrating to the United States. She had never really talked about the details like of how she was bullied for not speaking the same or looking the same, and what she enjoyed doing, when she was younger.
(b) An activity from the unit that felt useless was the six word memoir. I did not find myself learning anything new from pursuing that deliverable. Also animating a video to it did not really make the most sense to me.
(c) My opinion has changed very much learning about the struggles an individual must go through not just to get into a country, but to also fit in. I think it is absolutely incredible that there are foundations like HIAS that are able to help refugees seeking a safe place to be. I think that there need to be an increased amount of foundations like those. I also did not know that there were so many other reasons that contribute to the migration of some people.

a) An activity i found meaningful would have to be interviewing a person who you know to learn a little more about their life story. It makes the interviewer closer to the immigrant and also sheds light on the challenges and successes of their journey.
b) I thought the 2nd deliverable was useless, making a 10 sec video with 6 words is kind of meaningless. It did help us practice video animating skills but I felt it that was nothing we couldn't have picked up form doing Dev. 3.
c) Before this year I somewhat used to associate immigration solely with refugee's and whenever someone mentions immigration i think of syria. But I have found that immigration extends more towards people seeking opportunity that to escape violent conflict. I have found people do achieve success if worked at in their new world.

This was meaningful for me because I got to learn more about my cousin's journey of coming to America. An activity that felt useless for me was the presentation at the end of deliverable 4. While my group got to present some groups did not. While presenting we didn't get to share much because Mr. O'Connor kept asking questions when we were about to get to the point. Overall, the presentation wasn't needed.
C.

a.) I found Deliverable 3 to be the most meaningful. I learned a lot about my mom that I didn't know about before, including the way she feels about her immigration now. It was very insightful and, with corroboration from my dad, I came to understand the process of immigration and how it affects families more than I thought I would.
b.) I thought Deliverable 1 was a little useless. It did introduce us into making immigration-focused videos, but I don't see how it tied into the rest of the unit or how it benefitted our other work. It didn't really teach me anything about immigration and I wasn't getting any second-hand experience.
c.) I felt that I learned a lot just from the smaller assignments in the unit. I was able to get a lot of information from my parents, who had to work with the immigration process, and from other stories we read about on the internet. It reinforced some ideas I already had of immigration, for example the difficulties immigrants can face after the whole process, and how they or the family they left behind may feel after being separated. I also learned that there are different ways to go through immigration, some of which are quicker than others. In the end, I was able to expand my knowledge and general understanding of immigration and its lesser-known effects.

I was able to gain a deeper understanding of my dad's arrival to the US. Having him tell me his story directly without beating around the bush and giving all the details made me realize how lucky I am to be able to stay in one place and not need to start over and leave everything I have worked for behind.
(b) I think that D1 felt pretty useless because the directions were not perfectly clear so many details were misinterpreted. I also feel like a video with text wasn't a interesting enough to actually make us look into immigration and other issues very deeply.
(c) I thought I had a pretty good idea about immigration because my dad, ever since I was a little kid was very open about his immigration and made it clear how hard he worked to get to his level of success. I was very wrong. I gained a deeper understanding of the emotional and physical struggles my dad endured to come to America and make a new life. I have always had respect for my dad, but having him tell me his story in such a direct and blunt way made me realize how immigration is harder done than said. I also learned more and became aware of the refugee issue there is in this world and millions of people are displaced and have no where to turn because of their lack of money, resources, and countries immigration laws.

We were actually able to go use our knowledge of immigration and the struggles that these people have to overcome and help support them. For my deliverable 4, we collected toiletries to give to a foundation that helps immigrants.
(b) I felt that deliverable 2 was the most useless activity. I think that we could have used our six word memoirs in a different way, and that two animations is a little too much for a history class. Along with this, there was not much time to animate a creative project and the time limit was pretty short.
(c) After doing research on immigration and even interviewing an immigrant close to me, I have a new understanding of the struggles that they face. Deliverable 1 was a good start to the project and helped show my classmates what immigrants have to put up with. Deliverable 2 also helped us be in the mindset of an immigrant, and the animations that we ended up with taught us a lot. Deliverable 3 was what seemed like the summit of the deliverable. I was able to go in depth and actually learn about an immigrant who is in my family. My final product for that deliverable took lots of effort and time, but I was proud of it. Deliverable 4 was where we were actual able to give back to the immigrants. We collected toiletries which showed me just how much these people need the basic necessities.

(a). The most meaningful part of this unit to me was deliverable 4. I thought it was great to be able to do something through school that's good for the community, and not only that but the profits/materials from everything we accumulated as a class went to charities that would put it to good use which felt good at the end of the day.
(b).I felt that D2 and D3 were not that relevant to the unit. I think it's kinda fun to be able to tell your stories in a creative way but I would not say it had much relevance more than it was just a hoop to jump through. I would have rather done more charity work or do something that would build up more to our D4 because all of our deliverables had to do with animation. But overall I liked this unit and I think how they were spaced out worked well.
(c). By far the best thing to come out of this unit is the knowledge that I now possess about immigration. I think that we often get skewed opinions from the media and I think us doing our own research and being guided by a teacher to not look through the perspective of CNN and other news sources and instead build your own opinion. I have a lot more empathy now that I understand some of the thing that really happen on our borders that I would've never known about if not for this unit. So by far best that was my best takeaway from this U

A) I found the interview process to be the most meaningful. I learned so many new little details about my family's history that were very interesting and good to know.
B) I feel like the amount of animation we had to do was somewhat useless. Deliverable 1-3 were all very similar and taught us the same skills for the most part.
C) Yes, my idea on immigration has changed a little from this unit. It was very interesting to see how everyone has their own distinct background and come from unique places with unique stories. This unit also proved to me why America is such a desired destination for immigrants throughout the world. Most of the videos explained how there were push factors in their homeland, and America had new opportunities for success.

(a) An activity that I found meaningful in this unit was the creation of Deliverable 3. I was able to interview an immigrant that I grew up with and learn about her story. I got to learn about what it is like to come here and what people value here from other countries--opportunities and a good lifestyle. I found it very interesting to learn how people from other countries truly view America--I know we have opportunities and special chances here, but since I grew up here I did not know how our opportunities compare to other countries opportunities. I really enjoyed learning about Angie's story and how she truly lives the American Dream.
(b) One activity from the unit that felt useless was Deliverable 1. I did get to see pictures of migration, immigration, refugees, etc., but I did not research those topics or learn about them. I enjoyed learning Bob Dylan songs, but I did not learn much about any of the key themes.
(c) I was truly unaware of how immigrants/migrants view our country as one that has great opportunities and chances to prosper before I did this project. Angie described how it is great for her son to live here because of the opportunities and I did not realize the difference between our country and other countries. Through this project I learned many stories of migrants/immigrants/refugees and was able to see the struggles and successes of many individuals.
How has your opinion / idea / knowledge of the immigration (migration, refugees, personal connection, etc..) changed from before we did this unit.

(a) I found deliverable 3 the most meaningful because it was very interesting to learn about others stories. It was interesting to learn and see some struggles others had to immigrate from another country.
(b) I felt deliverable 1 was a little useless because it was just making a video that included images and some text about immigration themes. Also I felt that for being a project we had to make a 3 minute video it was a lot of work to not learn as much.
(c) I have a lot more knowledge on the topic of immigration and have come to see realize how difficult it actually is for someone to immigrate to another country. I have also learned how much families and people struggle once they come over to anther country. Overall my knowledge of immigration has expanded greatly and have come to recognize things that I wouldn't have before. I was also able to learn all about the differences between undocumented immigrants to illegal immigrants and then also migrant to immigrant.

I thought it was really interesting to get a perspective from an outside view.
(b) I thought the 6 word memoir was a little too much outside the box and didn't really understand the full purpose of the activity.
(c) Before heading into the project, I knew very little of the topic. when the unit began it enforced my previous knowledge and added more info that i was not familiar with.

I think this because it was important to bring the community together for a cause and this really highlighted that.

THe Bob Dylan video seemed the most useless. It was the most useless because I feel that it wasn’t very relative to what we were doing and it was kind of random.

Something that changed my views on immigration was how many immigrants there are. Before I thought that immigrants were more just people that didn’t have money and were trying to find a job. I didn’t realize that there are a lot of immigrants that chose to move and weren’t looking for more wealth

A. An activity from the unit that I found meaningful was the interview from deliverable 3. It was interesting to hear someone's story on how they immigrated to America. In addition, I found it interesting to hear since if I hadn’t asked, I never would have known all the barriers my family faced on the way.

B. I thought that they were all interesting however if I were to change one thing it would be about Deliverable 1. We didn’t do any notes or activities yet before we started the project which made it difficult to create the project. In addition, adding photos in to match the lyrics didn’t make me learn anything.

C. My knowledge about immigration has changed a bit but mainly based on D4 and a little of D3. I learned a little bit in D1 but had previous knowledge on the topic. Through my research for D4, I learned how hard it is to immigrate to America. I also learned that people don’t just need help crossing the border but also need help after they cross the border- such as reuniting families together, providing a place to live and the necessities they need to start a new life.

A.) I felt that deliverable 4 was a good project for us to do and learn about immigration. Not only did it get us involved in the community, it helped us get engaged with organizations that are working with immigration. I also felt that deliverable four gave us an opportunity to learn about how the current immigration situations are affecting the refugees and immigrants.
B.) I felt that the six-word memoir was a little bit pointless. It was not conducive to much research or planning. I didn't think I gained any knowledge from it.
C.) At the beginning of the unit I felt that we shouldn't let immigrants into our country until we had documented the current ones. This unit has helped me realized that it is important to have immigrants in our country. I also realized that immigrants do a fair amount to contribute to our society. Now I think that we should continue letting immigrants in but we should document them.
