2.       The reasons the Qur’an was sent down in stages are to strengthen the heart of the Prophet by addressing him continuously and whenever the need for guidance arose. Next, to gradually implement the laws of God. To make understanding, application and memorization of the revelation easier for the believers.

3.       The Qur’an was written by companions on scraps of leather, shoulder blades and palm risp during the Prophet time.

4.       Suhuf means loose pieces of writing material, such as paper, skin, papyrus etc while mushaf menas the collocted suhuf, brought together into a fixed order, suc as between two covers, into a volume. Next, suhuf stands for the sheets on which the Qur’an was collected in the time of Abu Bakar was fixed while mushaf in the present context means the sheets on which the Qur’an was collected in the time of Uthman. Lastly, in these suhuf the order of the ayat within each sura was fixed, but the sheets with the surat on them were still in loose arrangement which not bound into a volume while for mushaf, both the order of the sheets were fixed.

5.       Whereas the Prophet SAW instructed his scribes to write down every piece of Al-Qur’an as soon as a piece was revealed, he is believed to have forbidden the writing of anything else on his behalf, including his own words. After the death of Prophet SAW,, the Companions were reluctant to compile Al-Hadith out of fear for the intergrity of the text of Al-Qur’an and it is something that never be done by Rasulullah SAW. It was written about the middle of the first century of Islam.

Among the reasons why Qur’an was sent down in staged include as a consideration to prophet Muhammad (PBUH) because revelation was a difficult experience for him .It was also because to strengthen the heart of the prophet by addressing him continuously  and whenever the need for guidance arose.Next, it was to gradually implement the laws of God and lastly to make understanding, application and memorisation of revelation easier for the believers.

During the prophet’s time, Qur’an was only written down on rocks, leaves and branches of palm trees. However the Qur’an was written only on the purpose of in case any ayah from the surah was forgotten by the hafiz.

SUHUF

* Means loose pieces of witing material, such as paper, skin and papyrus

* The word suhuf are found in Qur’an 8 times

* Many suhuf will make a mushaf

MUSHAF

* Means collected suhuf, brought together into a fixed order, such as between two covers, into a volume

* There are no word of mushaf  mentioned in the Qur’an

* Many mushaf will make a Qur’an

During the time of the Prophet, prophet once said “write anything that come from the sahabah hear from the prophet except for Qur’an.Whoever has written anything  he heard from me apart from Qur’an let him scrap in”. this order was observed in the early part of the mission of the prophet  (PBUH) Then,after the death od the prophet , the four guided Khalifas who ruled the Muslim Ummah, respected the order of the Prophet and prohibited the writing and collection of Hadiths. They did believe God in his book and accepted the commandment of the Prophet. 

Abu Bakar at one point was not sure whether to keep what he knows of hadiths or not. He had collected 500 Hadiths during very long companionship of the Prophet Muhammed, but he could not sleep the night until he burned them. Umar Ibn Al-Khattab insisted on destroying the Hadiths collected by his son Abdullah. Islamic history mentioned the story of Umar Ibn Al-Khattab restraining four of the Prophet's companions because of their insistence on telling Hadiths, these were Ibn Masoud, Abu Al-Dardaa, Abu Masoud Al-Anssary and Abu Tharr Al-Ghaffary

1.There was no warning or orders  from Allah that Hadith cannot be compile because even  Qur’an that had been memorised by thousands of people had been compiled during the time of Uthman so theres no obligation to do so for hadith too.

1. The hadith must be introduced by an isnad, which means that the compiler must give the name of the authority from whom he learned this hadith and the authority must  give the name of his sheikh from whom he had learned the same hadith, and so on until the series reaches the Prophet (PBUH). These hadith authorities who may be called narrators or transmitter or muhaddiths constitute the isnad or sanad because the authenticity of the hadith rests on it

2.The isnad must be continuous with no interruptions. If interrupted or broken, it cannot be authentic. If the missing link is the companion who is supposed to have witnessed the hadith, the hadith is then called mursal. If it is link below the companion, it is called munqati, severed or broken. If it is more than one, it is called mu’dil 

3. Each authority must be known as a very pious person, God-fearing, a man of wide knowledge, very meticulously truthful, and of a high accurate memory. If any of these is not fulfilled, it will reflect upon the authenticity of the hadith.Even if one of the isnad happened to be mastur; ie. Not quite known and there is nothing wrong known about him, it will not be enough to judge the hadith authentic

In ancient times, literacy was a skill that few people had and Muhammad himself did not know how to read or write.

During the time of Caliph Abu Bakr, when 70 people who knew the Quran by heart (qari), were killed in the Battle of Yamama, Umar ibn al-Khattab became concerned and appealed to Abu Bakr in order to compile the Quran into a book.

Abu Bakr formed a delegation under the leadership of Zaid ibn Thabit, one of the leading scribes.

This delegation of 12 people, including famous figures such as Uthman ibn Affan, Ali ibn Abi Talib, Talha ibn Ubaydullah, Abdullah ibn Masood, Ubayy ibn Kab, Khalid ibn al-Walid, Hudhaifah and Saleem, came together in Umar's house and collected all the materials on which verses from the Quran were written.

In addition, the verses memorized by the companions were heard as well. Each of them was asked to show two witnesses for the verse they read.

The ban was lifted shortly before the Prophet’s death and some of the Prophet’s companions like Abd Allah Ibn Amr Ibn al As complied a number of hadiths probably for their own pivate use, not for wide circulation. During the early age of the caliphate, the companion of the Prophet SAW were reluctant to compile the hadiths out of fear for the integrity of the text of Al-Qur’an or perhaps they were hesitated to do something that was not done by the Prophet SAW. Umar thought of compiling the hadith but soon he withdrew his decision and this reluctant attitude continued during two succeeding generations although some short compilations like that attributed t Hammam Ibn Munabbih, which he related on the authority of Abu Hurairah. It was written about the middle of the first Century of Islam.

-To protect genuine hadiths from those fabricated ones. If the hadiths which were judged to be genuinely authentic, and those which were possibly so were separately compiled, excluding those considered by the experts as denied or rejected, the genuine ones would be protected from being mixed or confused with the fabricated ones. 

- To meet the needs of scholars in their researches and studies, such as the jurist, the philologists and the Qur’anic exegesists, by making Al-Hadiths easily accessible. 

-To make permanent recrd of Al-Hadith before the generation of those who carried it in their breast should vanish
