The devices we see create much symbolism in the sense of choices we may regret but cannot undo. Frost regrets taking the path that was risky, but is at peace with his choice. Frost uses nature in all of his poems to represent his feelings. The cold, snowy desert is a metaphor for the loneliness, nothing is around, no humans or animals. The cold feeling of depression comes from the snow and wind. Another one of his poems, "The Road Not Taken" is very similar to "Desert Places". Each share of theme of what happens in life, commonly depression. Frost's "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" and each of the other poems listed all share the figurative devices of metaphors, alliteration, and imagery. A theme common to all of these poems, is that life is not always perfect. Depression hits, loneliness happens, and nature depicts that. Each of these poems have a wide variety of figurative devices such as alliteration and metaphors. The poet also used many examples of imagery to create a scene in the readers head, and help them get a better unerstanding of how the poet is feeling. They cannot scare me with their empty spaces.” This is an example of personification because the author is trying to make it seem like the snow cannot express it’s sadness. The author uses imagery in his poem as well. “And the ground almost covered smooth in snow.” This is making you picture in your head about how the author is watching the snow fail and fill up the empty field. “Between stars- on stars where the human race is.” This is an example of irony he uses in the poem. This adds a message that things aren't always how they seem. The theme of the poems that he has written all show melancholy feelings. Expressing how he feels about certain things going on in his life. But, so far I think all the poems we read about him have been about snow. So it does show that he does love snow a lot because he talks about it a lot . But also, in all of the poems we read he mostly talks about nature and loneliness throughout the poems.
