<title>Stamp Act: March 22, 1765 The Stamp Act was passed by the British Parliament in 1765 and stated that colonists had to pay taxes on all paper documents. The colonists needed protection from the Native Americans near the Appalachian Mountains, during the French and Indian War, which caused Britain to station troops on the frontier near the Appalachian Mountains and because Britain needed a way to pay the soldiers, they developed the Stamp Act. The colonists were very resistant to the Stamp Act because they viewed it as a view for Britain to make money without the colonies approval. This resistance to the Stamp Act was shown through harassing the tax collectors and in the colonial legislature and written documents. The Stamp Act was significant during this time period because the colonists felt that “taxation without representation” was unjust and interfering with their rights. This event led to the American Revolution because many of the colonists felt that Britain was trying to gain more control over the colonies. The colonies were also angry because they felt the British government taxed the colonies without representation.</title>

<title>Quartering Act: March 24, 1765 The Quartering Act, passed in 1765, was a law that stated that colonists had to provide food and housing to the British soldiers. The Quartering Act was put into place because the British ParliamentThe colonists were angry about the Quartering Act because they felt it was unfair to be forced to buy and provide food and housing to the soldiers they didn’t want in the colonies to begin with. While the Quartering Act created more tension between the colonists and Britain, it also created more tension between the soldiers and the colonists. The colonists felt that the soldiers didn’t have a reason to be in the colonies and then the Quartering Act forced colonists to house them, increasing the tension between them. This event led to the American Revolution because the colonists felt that being forced to house and feed the British soldiers, who they didn’t want in the colonies to begin with, was an encroachment on their rights. This furthered the anger and tension between the colonists and Britain. </title>

<title>Townshend Act: June 29, 1767 The Townshend Act was a series of laws, passed in 1767, that stated that goods imported to America had to be taxed in order to pay for the debt caused by the French and Indian War. Charles Townshend used the money raised to pay for the governments salary, forcing them to stay loyal to the British crown. The French and Indian War caused Britain to go into debt, the British thought that the colonists, who were paying less taxes than them at the time, should pay for the war. British Parliament then raised the taxes by enforcing acts such as the Stamp Act and the Townshend Act.The colonial reaction to the Townshend Act was to begin protesting. The colonists began to boycott British goods for one year and many of them began to publish letters and make propaganda against the Townshend Act. This event is significant during this time period because it caused the colonists to unite and rebel against the British government by carrying out the Boston Tea Party. It also increased the tension between the colonists and Britain. This event led to the American Revolution because the colonists viewed it an abuse of power and a way for the British Parliament to control their imported goods. The Townshend Acts caused the colonists to rebel, heightening the tension between the colonies and Britain. </title>

<title>Boston Tea Party:December 16, 1773 The Boston Tea Party was a political protest that occurred at Griffin’s Wharf in Boston on December 16, 1773. The colonists were protesting “taxation without representation” and dumped over 300 cartons of tea into the water. The colonists were angry about the Stamp Act and the Townshend Act, which raised their taxes to help pay off the debt from the French and Indian War. The colonists decided to protest by dumping the British tea that was imported into the water. The Boston Tea Party united the colonies and encouraged the colonies to rebel against the British and their laws. Although it encouraged the colonists, it caused the Boston Harbor to be closed until the ruined tea was paid for and ended the free elections of town officials. The significance of the event during this time period was that this was the colonist’s first major act of defiance against Britain and their tax acts. This event led to the American Revolution because it was the first major event that defied the British government causing Britain to become even more militant increasing the tension between the colonists and Britain.</title>
