Depression

I have a reason why I chose this Ted- Ed video to be my topic. I always curious about psychology and human's mind and behaviour, because it is quite complex and mysterious. The more I put my interest in it, the more I feel amazed by psychology.

Depression, I think most of people in this world have ever felt it, including me. Research in USA said there is 10% adults there that have a depression. Depression is hard to understand because it has no trigger at all and it just pop out of the blue, and when circumstance changes, it will be gone by itself.

When I saw this video, I just know that there are differences between common depression and clinical depression. Clinical depression has more significant impact to our lives. We can have low mood, lost of interest in things you would normally enjoy, changes in appetite, feeling worthless, excessively guilty, sleeping either too much or too little ( and I feel it), poor concentration (this one too), and loss of energy.

The expertise in psychology said, if you feel five of the all case that mentioned above, you are indicated as person with clinical depression and you should start to looking for a therapist and said what you feel.

But the most important thing in this video is if you have a friend with depression, treat them right. Don't blame them, listen to their story, don't ever compare with your experience because it just make them feel more under pressure, and avoid ask them to leave it behind and force them to not depressed again because it just the same with asking someone with broken leg to fix it at that time.

Be a good listener, don't be a judger. We need to tell them that depression is not weakness or personal trait, it is okay for not being okay. This awareness about depression and mental illness can erase the stigma that depression is something you should shame about.

The more people open up to talk about their depression, the more scientists will do a research about it, and the more better the treatment will be.

It is quite hard for me to recalling what is the worst experience I ever had with technology. The experience which the technology made my life harder. How could it be? This thought bring me to 2018 when I had a small online business that I run by my own. I sell my own art, hijab, and art stuff.

As we know that we need transfering and receive the money from ATM machine since we have a long distance with our customers.

I wanted to received the money from my customer and use it to buy a lot of stocks to sell it again.
Actually I can use that machine easily, but there is a day when all of ATM machine in my whole city is broken, I just did not realize it from beginning.

At first, I went to the nearest ATM machine. We can find ATM machine easily, we can find it in every minimarket there, but it said that the machine is being repaired and we can not use it.

Then I went to police office to find the another machine. It was broke too.

I go here and there just to find the good one, but I found nothing. Then, I just saw the news that all of ATM machine from Bank that I used is broke because there was a big problem in their company.

My customers is mad because I could not sent their things on time.

Harry Potter

I am the kind of person who loves fantasy movie that the main character will get into another world such as Narnia, Alice in Wonderland, and the best one ever, Harry Potter. Sometimes when I was child and still dumb (well I still dumb now) I believed that all of those worlds are real and hoped that someday I will discover that world too ( I also waiting for Hogwarts invitation letter). I always got excited every time the TV shows those kind of movies and I never get bored.

Why Harry Potter? Well, actually I got a long list of my favourite movies because I am a movie addict but Harry Potter is the best one. I like its character even though we can find some difference between what the movie shows and what the book says. But a million people in this world still enjoy it and hoping that Hogwarts are real.

Talking about the character, once my favourite is Hermione Granger. I always obsessed to be like her since I know Harry Potter. She is kind, brave, intelligent and know-it- all girl, like Professor Severus Snape said. That’s really impact my behaviour and character as well, I always tried to be the best in a class and tried to not shy to raise my hand in the class to ask something or answering the question without being scared of answer it wrong, just like her. But it was few years ago. Now I am saner.

But still, Wizarding world in Harry Potter is my type of utopia. I do not know what else that makes me love Harry Potter this much. Am I poisoned with Amortentia?

Kakenya Ntaiya

Before I watch that inspiring Ted- Talk from Kakenya Ntaiya, I saw a video from Jubilee titled “Can Feminist and Non- Feminist Agree on Gender Equality”. This video successfully leads my mind to the clear conclusion about the meaning of ‘gender equality’ because I was confused with this topic that has so many grey areas.

Talking about that video, I found interesting argument from Seth that makes me think; “This is absolutely the thought that I’m looking for”. This is what I catch;

“I see three different waves of feminism. First and second wave were very clear in the particular things that they were trying to accomplish. We had first wave of feminism that trying to get women’s right to vote, and the second wave they try to helping women progress in workplace and such. Now I see third wave of feminism and it’s broken apart. It can be lost movement that goes in so many directions and so many extra qualifiers.” Those are the things that make me confused, can I call myself as a feminist because I want to be a part of people that campaigning women rights and anti- sexual harassment , or is it better to be non- feminist because I must campaign and agree about the rights of pro- choice and lesbian as well?

And then I went back to Ntaiya’s Ted- Talk and read about her biography on National Geographic and knowing what she ever did to her community. If this is what we called ‘feminist’ I would like to proudly announce that I am a feminist too! Just imagine if a woman like her did not stand for girl’s education and anti- FGM, probably they never had a chance to gain their own future because they must serve their family in the very young age, or the worse; die because of FGM. As what she said in that video, I totally agreed to her idea; “ Educating girls means educating a whole community” I’m glad of her existence and I hope she can be a role model for other girls around the world.

The things that I like about her is her belief that we need both men and women. She never put superiority into women’s existence like feminazi does, but she absolutely gives us a good example about what ‘gender equality’ is.

Sources:
https://www.nationalgeographic.org/find-explorers/kakenya-ntaiya

https://youtu.be/E37swnRU2fs
