American Patricia Highsmith (January 19, 1921, Ford Worth, Texas - February 4, 1995, Locarno) was one of the most important writers of the 20th century. It is considered that Carol was written from a personal episode that the author lived, when, while working in a department store, an elegant woman appeared before her eyes and captivated her. Her sexual condition, her pessimism and even her communist ideas led her to leave the United States in 1963 and go to Europe, because there she found the support and success she was looking for. A continent that never left.

Patricia hid many of the things that happened to her, including her anorexia, depression, alcoholism and the most important, a lung cancer that would end her life, until she died she didn’t mention anything about her bad health, which highlights her effort to maintain privacy.

I believe the author chose this title because it refers to the phrase "sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander" and is used to emphasize that if one person is allowed to do something or behave in a particular way, then another person should be allowed to do that thing or behave in that way too. This relates to the text in that Olivia and Stephen had the same intentions and both were allowed to think and behave that way in the case of this story.
I think a better title would be "sinister and deep" as the three deaths in the text occur in the depths of the house, in the garage and in the cellar and I think it would attract the reader more.

Olivia went to bed and secured a night's sleep with a light sedative. The next morning she woke up and remembered Stephen was in the freezer, she never would have thought it would be so easy to kill him. She got a text from John, the guy she met in a bar a few days ago, she was already planning to go out with him but first she had to figure out what she was going to tell the police.
Olivia had already called a freezer repairman a few days before, saying the door was broken, so there would be proof of that.
The plan was perfectly thought out , when the police came to question her, Olivia told them that a few days ago she called a freezer repairman but they never fixed it and yesterday she and Stephen were going to cook something but there were not many ingredients and Olivia went out to buy them, It took a long time and the car got stuck on the road, she called the tow truck and they did not answer, so she slept in the car and came home the next morning and did not find Stephen, she looked for him and when she went to the cellar she saw something strange.

Olivia knows that during the night Stephen will die, so she decides to call a friend and go to her house to spend the night there. Because she knows that neither the police nor the neighbours will believe the acting of “I went to see my husband and he was dead” it would be too suspicious.
As she planned, she spends the night by her friend and the next morning, she asks this same friend to take her home. When they arrive to the house, she offers her company something to drink and she accepts. When they enter the house, Olivia yells ‘darling, I’m home’.
Olivia and her friend go to the freezer looking for something to drink. Olivia knows what they’re going to see once she opens the door. So, she acts surprised, shocked and totally devastated when they see Stephen inside the freeze completely frozen. Her friend looks at her with her eyes wide open and tells her in a desperate voice ‘Olivia, call the police’.
The police arrives and Olivia has her friend’s witness that she had spend the night out and found her husband dead. The police believe them and starts investigating whether someone killed him or he suicided, and Olivia continues with her normal life looking for her next victim. (215 words)

Olivia, knowing that Stephen would die the next morning, she makes her suitcase to get out of her house and escape the scene of the crime. Getting a false identification at the time was very difficult, but she could manipulate anyone into getting one and leaving the state without any recognition. By obtaining this false identity she manages to get out of the state forgetting her past, forgetting Loren and Stephen to make a new life. But the police investigating Loren's mysterious domestic death began to investigate Stephen, and knowing that he was dead days ago and that there was no information from Olivia, they began to investigate and search for it all over the city. With a national capture order and an open investigation they began to look for witnesses, but Olivia was very clever and intelligent that he left no trace of where he was, it seems to be like siella would never have existed. It is very strange how a person can be so sinical not to value true love, as Loren's towards her, to the point of kill him to accept, without any guilt the psychotic love that Stephen had towards her and then kill Stephen as well.
(202 words)
