Trust is a huge concept in classroom management because the students know that you are trusting them to make wise decisions and complete their tasks. They should know that if they cannot be trusted, they may not be able to work independently on certain tasks.

"We spend a great deal of effort creating and maintaining a healthy classroom culture. We build from a foundation of trust and respect to create an environment of learning and caring for all students." (Pg. 24)

"We work hard to help students understand that we are all in various stages of development. Students are taught to honor where they are and where their classmates are in their learning journeys." (Pg. 24)

It is important for students to understand that not everyone will be able to read the same book as everyone else. We all come from different backgrounds. As long as children understand from the beginning that not every students learns the same, it will encourage all students to keep pressing on in their learning journey.

"It rings true for all of us, not just the children we serve: When we have some say in the matter, we are much more motivated to complete the task." (Pg. 26)

This is so true for not only children but adults. We all want to be apart of what we are working so hard on. It means so much to children for them to be able to give input, and make a choice in what they will be doing for the day. This is why coming up with classroom rules as a class is so important, because the entire class including the teacher comes up with rules together.

"Now we teach our children to be accountable for choosing their own comfortable spots all around the room where they engage in meaningful reading and writing for extended periods of time." (Pg. 27

Trust is such an important concept in the classroom. If you have trust with your students, they will have trust with you. Holding students accountable gives them an understanding of how much it means to the teacher for them to manage their actions appropriately.

"We realized that when their bodies and brains were provided with the needed break, our children were able to settle back and continue with reading." (Pg. 32)

"The transitions allow for a longer and more focused literacy time, and practicing them also makes transitions throughout the whole day easier." (Pg. 33)

Transitions may sounds scary because one may think that the class would lose focus through transitions. But through trust, strategy, and practice, transitions can go very quickly and smoothly allowing for a much needed brain break.
