Racism is something that many pretend doesn't even happen today, but it is still very prominent and it really does affect others and their lives. This book tells the story from what Starr is feeling and seeing as she witnesses  the death of her best friend, Khalil, at the hands of a police officer. When I was living in sand Springs, Oklahoma, I had been moving around a lot and going to a few different schools. One school I went to had a very small amount of kids that were my own race and almost everyone there was really rude or unfair to me including the teachers and I got in trouble a lot even for small things.
