My name is Alina Tylczak, and this is my third course towards completing my special education endorsement at NLU to further my knowledge about child development and early childhood special education. I have my bachelors in Early Childhood Education from NLU, and I also hold an endorsement in bilingual education. As an EL Resource teacher my job is not only to help my ELL students learn and understand English but also to interpret for the school staff. This includes being a part of IEP meetings, replying to voice messages from parents and so on. Of course, I am still lesson planning and collaborating with staff on EL proficiency focus students.
Being able to take time to do these things while still making sure my students get 100% is a juggling act! I vowed not to be the teacher who takes everything home yet that is what I find myself doing. I don't want to drop the ball at work but I feel as if this is not fair to my family because it means taking time away from them.
So much to figure out. The team and I have talked with his mom and she only wants him taking a 1 hour nap but he has the hardest time waking up and will often engage in maladaptive behaviors. Sometimes I think it is a way to escape his work.
