If I am able to, I will be making home visits and reaching out to families before the school year starts to establish a lasting relationship. It was easy to give the excuse that a phone was no longer in service, or a mailbox was full, and then move on to the next student. I let the language barrier become an issue that could have been resolved easily if I would have pushed myself a little harder.
