What I mean by not the best is that it was almost non-existent. Horace Mann saw this and thought there needed to be change. This lead him to be the spear head in the education reform movement. The belief was that children were our future and to secure our future, we must make sure the kids are prepared.
While Horace Mann lead it, he made very little change in public education himself, but others he inspired did. One such man was Noah Webster. He created the first dictionary which was easy to produce and obtainable for schools. Women helped, just as much if not more than men and felt they should be recognized as such. The fight for equal rights for women started at the convention of seneca falls.
