Within golf it is an effective method because it helps golfers breakdown their swing data and numbers to see where they can improve on their weaknesses and see what area of the game they are excelling in. Apps can also be used to track performance during competition, which can be very effective as it clearly outlines where an individuals area of improvements are. Other forms of technology can be used to show which muscles are overworking which can be used by coaches to change technique to help reduce injury.

As mentioned before it can be used by coaches to detect overworking muscles and technique can be altered to minimise injury. This can benefit a golfer as it will increase the longevity of their career allowing them to perform at a higher level for longer.

It can also be used to highlight flaws in technique which can be used by players and coaches to change their swing in order to hit the ball better/straighter which will in turn lead to lower scores out on the course.

Apps can be used to track on course data which can be used by players to see where their weaknesses are and find out what they need to work on the most.

Disadvantages

One disadvantage is that technology can be expensive. Examples such as trackman can cost thousands of pounds and for a lot of people this is not attainable and therefore they are unable to get access to use them.

Another disadvantage is that players can get reliant on the use and help of technology. For example, a player who uses trackman to see their distances eg wedge numbers, will be lost and soon lose feel when the use of technology is removed.

One last disadvantage would be that it doesn't completely translate to "real golf". For example, a golfer who plays a lot of simulator golf will lack skills such as green reading the ability to read and adapt to weather conditions such as wind and rain.
