Trust vs. mistrust is the first stage in Erik Erikson's theory of psychosocial development. It occurs from birth to 18 months of age and is characterized by the infant's developing sense of trust or mistrust in their caregivers. If the infant's needs are met consistently and responsively, they will develop trust in their caregivers and the world around them. If their needs are not met, they may develop a sense of mistrust and become withdrawn or disengaged.

When I was this young I gained the trust quick because of how parents treated me and did things with me when I was little like showing me how to walk and playing with me .

It occurs from 18 months to 3 years of age and is characterized by the child's developing sense of independence and autonomy.
