In KG2, we differentiate lessons into four levels – Mild, Medium, Spicy and Mastery. For inclusion children, they can complete the mild task with additional concrete resources provided to them to scaffold their learning further. Currently, in KG2 this year, the academic year 2025/2026, we do not have any children on a modified curriculum.

Groupings for each pupils in the grade for cycle 1, 2 and 3. We follow the 'Little Wandle' lesson plans for our phonics lessons. The classes are streamed and split into 6 groups (currently). Each group is following their own plans for the specific level they are teaching.

We complete phonics assessments every 5 weeks using 'Little Wandle' assessments online. You can see from the phonics groupings below how much progression has been made.

At the end of KG2, all pupils complete the phonics screener.

After implementing the 'Little Wandle' phonics programme in 2023, we have seen a massive progression in children's phonics knowledge. In June 2025, we had a pass rate of 91%, which is a massive progression from 69% the previous year.

PYP Awards

Every second week, we award two pupils per class a PYP award. The children win these awards based on which IB learner attribute they have been showcasing well in class that week. For example, if a child has shown they have been a Risk-Taker or they have been Reflective in class. We celebrate their achievements by putting the award winners on our PYP awards display in the KG2 corridor.

Phonics January comparison 2024/2025 to 2025/2026

At the end of KG2, all pupils complete the phonics screener.

In June 2025, we had a pass rate of 91%.

After implementing the 'Little Wandle' programme in 2023, we had a pass rate of 80% in June 2023.

In comparison to September 2024 where there were 3 groups working at Year 1/ KG2 level and 3 groups working at KG1 / Reception level, this year you can see that there are 2 groupings working in Year 1/KG2 phonics, and 4 groups still working at a KG1 / Reception level.

The children have a daily target on their desks that can be linked to a curricular area or another area (for example, social skills) that the child is focusing on that day.
