400 AD- 1533 AD

The Incas made the largest empire ever seen in America and largest in the world. The Incan capital was Cuzco and had a population of 150,000. The Incas continually took over areas with ranging climates and cultures. The Incas had over 10 million subjects with 30 different languages. Social status played a major role with the empire so the people would know their place in society. Incas kept their power for so long by force.

Source:History.com Staff. "Machu Picchu." History.com. 2011.

1300 AD

Cuzco, Peru, is where Machu Picchu can be found. Machu Picchu is one of the most famous and most visited archaeological sites. It is believed that this massive site was built by the Inca Pachacutec. Hiram Bingham III was the one to discover the site in 1911. It is most believed that Machu Picchu was meant to be a royal estate. Many religious structures were made on this site such as "Temple of the Sun". The preservation of this site is extremely good and visitors still go today.

Source:History.com Staff. Early development was also made with weaving, pottery, agriculture, religion and architecture. A lot of stress was on the environment since there were multiple droughts.
