(Padlet #6. 2-26) I believe community/family is…

The people and places surrounding someone. Building off of that, I believe that school/classroom is a miniature community/family. Based off of the American Education textbook I think one of the social purposes of school is teaching the students how to adjust and fit in with their community. The text says that according to Fichte school is a miniature community where children learn to adjust their individuality to the requirements of the community. I think that allowing the students to think of their classroom and school as their "community" can help them be productive members within their school community and home community. The community aspect should give them a sense of responsibility and safety. This can help the students in the classroom as well as outside of the classroom and later on in life.

I believe collaboration is…(4-2 NEW POST)

When people work together on something.

Expanding off of this I believe that collaboration is a strategy that helps build positive relationships and promote student achievement. Examples of collaboration include lesson planning together. Lesson planning together allows for teachers to collaborate and become equally invested in something/students. It allows each other a fresh set of eyes and perspective when trying to find the best way to teach a lesson. Communication is an important part of collaboration. In this course we have worked together on many group projects. I have enjoyed working in groups with my peers because I am able to communicate my ideas and thoughts as well as hear theirs. They are always saying something with a new perspective and I am able to build off of that in a way that I couldn't have by myself. I think collaboration is important amongst teachers because they can help you prepare for different ideas and mindsets you may not have thought of- because this will happen with your students. Collaborating to do what is best for the students allows extra involvement to promote their opportunity of success. Collaboration also allows for us to check each others biases when dealing with a lesson or student.

are interested, feel confident in themselves, and prepare for learning.

Expanding off of that, I believe that students learn best when their needs are differentiated and accommodated. One thing that has stuck with me through this semester is the different ways students learn. This semester has given me the opportunity to engage with older students, 4th grade science and a 6th grade student for Language Arts. At this age I have noticed that they are more easily distracted and not as excited about learning some days. In my experience in the blocks I have found that students learn best when the assignments interest them and relate to them. I also know it's important for the student to feel comfortable and safe with me so they are open to learning and sharing their ideas. I think creating this type of environment for the students allow them to learn better.
