I teach at a Title I school in the small town where I live, which is part of the Gordon County school system. My first year teaching I taught first grade, but this past year I team-taught third grade and had the reading/ELA side of the curriculum. I didn't teach any science this year, and during my first year we did not have a set time for science, so we integrated it into our reading block through read-alouds and inquiry circles. I was able to teach science during student teaching, and loved every second of it! I had a set time each day for science, as well as access to a science lab and a fully functioning greenhouse. My favorite thing about teaching science was watching my students fall in love with it. We were fortunate enough to have a lab and a greenhouse which made hands-on experiments and real-world application quite easy and so much fun.

At the point I am at now, I would love to be able to instill a love for science in my students, even without exclusively teaching science as a stand alone subject. I would love to be able to integrate both science and social studies into my ELA classroom next year. As a young teacher, I just honestly need some guidance as to how to make that happen.
