Amber was a White-American who didn't have much knowledge teaching to and about diverse backgrounds. And I feel that way as I too grew up in a community with a majority of White-Americans, that I was not immersed with much diversity, and do not have personal experiences either that can relate to cultures and backgrounds other than mine. So, like Amber, I am intimidated by having to teach about/on things that I do not know. I want to follow Amber's footsteps and research and grow my knowledge on multicultural perspectives. I also love that she changed her mindset from being intimidated to finding it fascinating to learn new information. Example from reading, "Amber Bechard had been teaching kindergarten in a very privileged private school in Massachusetts when her husband was told he was being transferred to Chicago. Knowing that she would be teach- ing a much more diverse student body, she took a class in multicultural curriculum" (Nieto, p. 51).

I consider myself to be very privileged in the education I've had and opportunities granted to me because of that, but also consider myself privileged with the environment I had grown up with, and people I associated myself with. As I've gone through my college education, it has led me to understand how much I need to learn about other cultures and more importantly why it is important to represent students of different cultures. I am become more passionate in the last years about how I can continue to learn about cultural efficacy in the classroom

Carmen Tisdale is the teacher I relate to the most because my students are like my own children. A lot of them remind me of my son who is a year older than them. I see them and assist them as if I was there mother. I take pictures of them on field trips for their parents. I help them when they are sick. I do their hair for the ones who don’t get it done at home sometimes. I also relate to her because I like to be in the language of the students. A lot of my students use today's language, and it is sometimes confusing for me, but I like to let them express themselves in their own ways.

I connected with the teacher Carmen Tisdale. As a teacher, I feel that I am not as formal when speaking with my students. I want them to feel comfortable when we talk. I want them to be embraced in their causal dialect and academic. Often, I hear teachers constantly correcting students when they are just speaking in casual conversation outside, after school (etc..) Because of this though have developed a very strong relationship with my classroom student that has been named the “attitude” student. She knows she can come to me with personal concerns, but she also knows what my expectations are of her when it is time to be focused. I am not a serious person. Maybe as serious, and I wouldn’t expect my students to be for 8 hours a day.

Even when it comes to religion I may not have the same religion as some of my students, but I want to learn about theirs. Especially right now because of Ramadan and I have kids who are fasting.

When Amber said it was okay to admit I grew up in a relatively privileged life, I related to her. I am comfortable with having those difficult & controversial conversations in my classroom. Although I may not be able to relate to my students, I do believe I would be able to empathize with my students on that level. I would love for my students to share out their personal experiences in a safe learning environment.

I️ relate most to Adam Heena. His economics lesson about the homeless population was super special to me. I️ also like the way the he was elated to be at a "School of need" which is the only type of school that really interests me. I was a student who grew up with mostly caucasian educators who growing up who didn't really go out of their way to make their students of colors feel seen, Mr. Heena would have been a great educator to have had and to know in life.

also he enjoys comic books and motorcycle's but not at the same time. LOL
